this should go without saying but if you were one of the lucky few we did get out of Afghanistan during the withdrawal and we got you out because you'd been working with us, deportation back is likely a death sentence.

That's the first thing that came to my mind. I wonder if he, or someone in his family, was being deported back to Afghanistan. They would surely suffer a fate worse than an American prison from the Taliban.

When the US pulled out of Afghanistan many Afghans who worked alongside them were offered TPS to keep them safe from execution by the Taliban.
But in July the Trump administration ended Afghan TPS, putting 11K Afghan refugees in the US at risk of deportation and death.

One of the most striking developments of the last two decades or so is that everyone on the right -- media, politician, judge, cop, pastor -- has started sounding basically the same, ie, like an unhinged blogger. They're all in the same bubble now, w/ the same shibboleths, using the same vocab.
