Mary Ann Camberton Shadd Cary (1823 – 893) was an American-Canadian anti-slavery activist, journalist, publisher, teacher, & lawyer. She was the 1st black woman publisher in N. America and the 1st woman publisher in Canada.[1][2] She was also the 2nd black woman to attend law school in the US.

Jean Langenheim (1925 – 2021) was a US plant ecologist and ethnobotanist, and a pioneer for women in the field.
