Thank you to @longcovidweb.bsky.social and @memorialu.bsky.social for including me in the 3rd Canadian Long Covid Symposium in St. John’s, NL 🫶

I made the link to my speech public after the conference ended. It’s here if anyone wants to check it out:

“Hope is not a balm for the reality of pain, it is a witness to it.”

Hear, hear. 🙌

The hope never leaves. And, it’s not a cure. It’s there whether you’re improving, declining, or staying at the same baseline.
I’ve grown so weary of healthy people reminding sick people to have hope. How do they think we’ve survived it all, many of us alone? We are already far more resilient than they can understand. Hope is not a balm for the reality of pain, it is a witness to it. #pwME #LongCovid #chronicillness #MECFS

A lot of people think the world can be made better by identifying the bad people and making them suffer in exactly the ways that we suffer. I understand that urge. It may bring some kind of catharsis. But we all need to understand that it doesn't actually *solve* anything.

Do any of y’all get the feeling like your brain (or something) is literally swelling when you think? It’s like, a pressure. I get it more on the bad days, or when I’m crashing.

No idea what the mechanism is. Blood flow? 🤷🏻‍♀️

The benefits of UBI are so clear, the only people who could be against it are those whose earnings rely on a segment of the population being so desperate that their labour can be more easily exploited, and those who profiteer off of poverty in various other ways.
The cost of poverty in Canada is $80 billion. The cost to implement a liveable guaranteed basic income $3 billion. #UBI #Canada
This is ✨Senator Kim Pate✨

Canada's champion for Basic Income in Parliament

She just gave one of the most iconic speeches ever
- it's cheaper than poverty
- encourages work and entrepreneurs
- cuts crime and helps victims of abuse

Please look at this amazing victory. We need more of this energy 🙌
"Tenants in Kansas City are declaring victory after eight months on rent strike—the longest such action in the city’s history...an outcome that lends momentum to efforts to adapt labor union strategies for housing fights."

I’m so appreciative to the folks at CBC for helping to spread the word about what Covid has been doing to folks.

Hot tip: it’s still out there.

Be safe, gang. 💘

Just over 2 years ago, @nikkiegallant.bsky.social never would have imagined that simply sitting up in bed would be an exhausting task for her.

That's been the #PEI musician's reality since the fall of 2022, when she was diagnosed with post-COVID condition, more commonly known as #longCOVID.
The pandemic didn't end for this P.E.I. woman, who wants more support for those with long COVID | CBC News
While thoughts of the COVID-19 pandemic are in the rearview mirror for most Prince Edward Islanders, they're still a part of daily life for people like Summerside's Nikkie Gallant.

Just some general information we will hopefully never need…
My dad was tortured by the Gestapo for 4 days and thrown in a concentration camp for being in the Norwegian Resistance. Growing up, he would tell me things he learned in the Resistance. I thought, I'm never going to need this stuff. Here's some of those things #Thread

FOR PEI PALS:

PEI Fight for Affordable Housing is putting on some tenant consultation sessions across the island

Housing’s been in a state of chaos for a while now. There’re many issues around this (it affects us all, tenant or not)

Consider coming out to an upcoming session:

Ok, I need to know which feed to pin about music and songwriting and getting inspired by talking with others who do those things.

I’ve pinned “songwriting” already, but are there more? Is there a hashtag that works nicely over here? #songwriting #musician #music #musicsky What works?

Question for Long Covid and/or ME/CFS folks:

Can anyone tell me why it helps to stay in bed for a bit after waking? I know it helps, I feel it in my body, and my hrv numbers improve, but I don’t know.. scientifically why. Any theories?

I’ve been calling it cocooning… 🦋

So, are we importing any terminology from Threads?

Like calling the “dejuvinated” bird app, The Bad Place?

Ok, quick question

I don’t see a way to save a link to a post. Is there a way to do this?

I usually save a lot of resources that way. I often come back to them to share info with others.

I can save the text of a post, but when I paste it, it doesn’t pull who posted it or anything…
