Three things to bear in mind in #Edinburgh tram extension debate: (i) trams have much greater capacity + are more efficient + reliable than buses in any form; (ii) Orchard Brae was never a serious alternative; (iii) Roseburn retains cycling/walking wheeling.

The SNP's wrecking amendment to this motion has sadly passed, confirming that the Scottish Government no longer opposes the Rosebank oil field application. A huge step backwards and a sad day for Scotland's reputation on climate action.
Under Nicola Sturgeon & Humza Yousaf the Scottish Government rightly opposed the proposed Rosebank oil field.

John Swinney has sadly dropped that opposition and tried to avoid taking a position at all.

That's not good enough, so tomorrow the @scottishgreens.org will force a vote.

Poland’s state rail operator PKP has signed a €1.6 billion contract to buy 42 double-decker express trains, the largest purchase of its kind in the history of Polish railways.

Edinburgh Council is not proposing the 'destruction of a park', it's proposing the restoration of a former railway line to meet climate targets, reduce congestion, improve air quality, provide economic opportunities, enhance mobility and reduce social inequality.

The #Roseburn corridor is indeed a fantastic cycle route, but it's a former railway line that's needed for that purpose again. You'll still be able to cycle along it when the tram comes. More importantly, without the tram the city has little chance of meeting its climate targets, and that's serious.

Some good Tram coverage in the Herald today. Especially worth remembering that 'Consultation exercises often capture only a small fraction of public option'. In any event, Edinburgh needs to plan for the long term with all its communities in mind.
