It's weird to not only have lived through an information revolution but also now living through its undoing, all within less than a generation.
Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.

I have work to do but I'm distracted by watching US scientific progress & leadership being irreversibly undermined because a few unelected malcontents are penalizing researchers for following legal requirements set out by congressional orders to augment basic research with benefits to society.

Many scientists who have tried OpenAI's 'deep research' tool are impressed with its ability to write literature reviews or full review papers and even identify gaps in knowledge. But others are less enthusiastic.

OpenAI’s ‘deep research’ tool: is it useful for scientists?
The model produces cited, pages-long reports that might be helpful for generating literature reviews.

The Fifth Estate is reporting on how anti-2SLGBTQ+ sentiment is affecting Canadian libraries and - something I'm so glad they looked into - how it's connected to attacks on libraries in the United States. www.cbc.ca/newsinteract...
A shadow war on libraries

Hey Elon👋🏽 Every single person in this country deserves to know their rights. That's legal.

Maybe you should brush up on our laws given the fact you're breaking them to steal American's sensitive data.

PS. This video is manipulated, and I wasn't even at the event shown.

The CDC is removing data sets that researchers widely rely upon because they include information on sexual orientation and gender identity. “It feels like they’re trying to will us out of existence,” one researcher tells @theresagaff.bsky.social:

Your daily reminder that health care is more than diagnosing things and AI cannot place an IV or intubate a patient.
So, RFK Jr. and President Trump propose concierge medicine and replacing nurses AND doctors with AI as a solution to improving access to healthcare. It's no surprise that the GOP and tech bros support this dangerous rhetoric that only profits them while endangering everyone else.
