When you hold so few sitting days, it's not a shock that we end up with this idiocy of trying to rush through bills on the last day.
A lot happening in Aus parliament today, including Chris Bowen's national climate change statement and the release of several reports. Details of what we know so far in 4 posts in the blog (scroll down). Plus everything else that's happening in Canberra today - trademark year-end chaos.

Quite disappointed that there isn’t more outrage in the coverage on this
the government wants to smash about 40 bills thru the Senate today with little to no debate, using "guillotine" motions

Jacqui Lambie off the long run accuses Labor of seeking to "avoid scrutiny and debate" with "the mother of all guillotines" to ram bills thru

Huge respect for Prof Dorothy Bishop, given Musk's avid promotion of vaccine conspiracy theories.

Bluesky can suspend Nigel Farage in less than 36 hours.

But the Police can't question him over the riots he incited, even after 5 months.

This isn't a culture war. This is the only trans congresswoman, ever being bullied through the press and legislation, and having only 1 of hundreds of colleagues stand up for her. They can do more than 1 thing at a time. Defending her will not take so much effort that they can't do their jobs.
Defending Sarah McBride is absolutely the right thing to do, and yet there’s also the risk of being baited into yet another culture war cycle that distracts from the Republican grift. Her statement suggests she wants to move forward, and I think it’s wise to take the cue from her.

If you still need to share a link to a tweet, but don't want to send people to Musk's cesspool - replace "x" with "xcancel" in the tweet link.

For example x.com/dril/status/...

becomes xcancel.com/dril/status/...

People will still see the tweet, but without going to Twitter.

The people who say they want to see a revival of US manufacturing often don't actually support it. They're the ones who will buy the cheaper t-shirt every time, which means the one made abroad. Meanwhile, the luxury consumer doesn't care where something is made but will pay $$$.

Either way, the 2017 experiment proved one thing: even with the promise of sweatshop free production and identical garment quality, US consumers were not willing to pay an extra $4 for a US-made garment. You would have to raise tariffs so high that the US item is *cheaper.*
