Funny idea, but this Emmys speech-shortening bit is a bust. Getting played off has been replaced by….getting shamed off?? Speeches deliver fun moments on these awards shows. Now everyone is just rushing through the same names.

said it yesterday but the people who commit this violence increasingly show us that they deeply understand how our information ecosystems process it. It appears to be part of the appeal for them. And yet the response doesn't really change. www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...

Given this it makes total sense to implement AI in schools K to university. Waiting for the institution-directed lawsuits from parents. Education administrators are prob feverishly drawing up waivers like one signs before bungee jumping.
News reports of deaths related to AI chatbots should be setting off alarm bells for all of us, writes Common Sense Media founder and CEO Jim Steyer. But the use of AI, including general-purpose chatbots like ChatGPT, for companionship is unacceptably risky for teens, he says.

OMG you guys. I know there’s still an election to win, but she won’t be in it? Madam “Everybody dies” is going back to wherever she came from?

Good things are possible.

Oh thank god I’m so relieved. They fixed it. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Meta's chatbots will now be trained to not engage with teenage users on a number of sensitive topics, ranging from self-harm, disordered eating, or inappropriate romantic conversations, @mzeff.bsky.social has exclusively learned.

I feel this. But I also find myself oddly relieved. We had a thesis that information access was the key to knowledge and wisdom.

Turns out intermediaries (like teachers and critics) and shared learning spaces where we have to test our learning and opinions against the thinking of others … matter.
I’ll never get over the fact that all the world information is now available to us at the click of a button and the result is that we have collectively become much, much stupider.

I seriously can't believe that OpenAI's solution to its software facilitating suicide is to instead... have it call the cops.

Why don’t we bring in two kids from each city and have them compete to the death to decide while we’re at it?
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding is the perfect opportunity to pit cities against each other. Why shouldn’t we get to play a part in choosing the site of the century’s most scrutinized nuptials? And why not televise it?

You know everything you need to know about where the monoculture is by the fact that we are re-platforming this woman who literally tortured people on TV for money.
Jillian Michaels has transformed from an apolitical wellness authority to an unfiltered political commentator and a defining voice of the MAHA era. She spoke to The New York Times about her transformation.

Somebody needs to tell Ezra Klein that he doesn’t need to make being contrarian to whatever he perceives to be the conventional wisdom his whole personality.
In Opinion | “The commentariat consensus is that GPT-5 is a dud, a disappointment, perhaps even evidence that artificial intelligence progress is running aground. Meanwhile, I’m over here filled with wonder and nerves,” the columnist Ezra Klein writes.

‘KPop Demon Hunters’ topped the box office this week, we think? We’re pretty sure. Netflix isn’t sharing its box office receipts, so this is kind of guesswork.

People looking for the morally superior neo liberal choice that can “win the center” are going to be chronically disappointed.

Obama works for Netflix now.
Newsom is not likely to be my first choice for a presidential candidate (to put it mildly); if I had to pick right now I'd go with Walz or Pritzker. But there is indeed a bit before 2028 and lots of things that need to be done between now and then.

I’m not sure “for the terminally online” is the sick burn it once was. Macroculture is awash in incel language that started on 4chan, the valley girl accent made popular on TikTok is now standard media fare. Online culture is culture. Particularly as Trump decimated all other cultural engines.
*Snark feels like resistance if you are terminally online*
Newsom is the Democrat who is most adept at punching up at the current president, in no small part because he is in many ways cut the same vainglorious cloth. He knows where to punch. People are eating it up because they love a fight, and snark feels like resistance if you are terminally online.

The irony of a self-proclaimed "democracy defender" writing a post that is equal parts censorial and anti-intellectual while fascism rises.

Curious, my guy, what kind of democracy are you defending?
It would be a huge step forward for Democrats and for general clarity in political writing if these terms went away. These came mostly from academic hothouses.

A conversation I’m not seeing is how to shift parenting to prepare our kids for adulthood under techno fascism.

We’re focusing on:
- how to dissent
- how to prioritize your well-being/community over social standards
- how to recognize coersion
- the (non) ethics of digital platforms

I'm happy to be in the grey fray about LLMs on a variety of topics.

But if you're talking about LLMs in healthcare - I'm out. There is no room for LLMs in healthcare. Zero. Zilch. None.
