A lovely example of genuine public service!
A bus of Bronx middle schoolers pulled up to the Capitol this morning for a long-planned field trip just a few hours after the government shut down.

All Capitol tours were cancelled as the guides can’t work in shutdown.

So I escorted them in myself and gave them a personal tour. They were great!

If you think AI is the future, then you should be giving serious thought to what obligations we need to impose on hyperscalers as their public importance grows, and how we push the industry to make compute power as cheap, commoditized, and plentiful as electricity or water.
Authored a piece with @theodoraskeadas.bsky.social, @nickgarcia.bsky.social, and @elisephillips.bsky.social on the urgent need for the cloud to be a public utility. We're forming a coalition of state legislators who won't let such crucial infrastructure remain under Big Tech control - join us today!
Given that cloud computing has become such a central part of our lives — and the serious harms already caused by concentration in this sector — it should be regulated as a public utility, Michelle Nie, Theodora Skeadas, Nick Garcia, and Elise Phillips write.
