🧵🍞 1/25 In the early 1960s, a small engineering firm in Burnley, Lancashire, built the machine that would transform bread-making worldwide.
Thirty years later, its operations had been shuttered, absorbed, and relocated.
This is the story of British innovation – and what happened next. 🧵

“Florence Nightingale was seen by the Florentines as a daughter of the city who gave her name lustre abroad.
Her inclusion in Santa Croce’s memorial cloister places her alongside artists scientists & reformers recognition that compassion & moral courage are as vital to civilisation as art & science”

Recall Trump and his daughter being asked what they had in common. Trump replied "sex" Ivanka "golf". Both weird answers.
Brian Clough was asked what he and Nigel had in common. Brian replied "We both love his mother "
That's the right answer.

The right-wing backlash against #Superman this week got me thinking: Has this happened before?

That led to the discovery of these headline — from April 1940, when the official newspaper of the SS took umbrage at the comic book hero and ridiculed its creators.

But those of us who knew him came away irreversibly altered by even the short time we shared together....

The division is not ethnicity but wealth. Just like I don't know any wealthy landowners our clients don't know people who own their homes or enjoy a regular decent income.
