“I was good at that job and it was a job I had been working my whole career for. Since then, it’s like you said, still having the mindset of a journalist but you don’t really have a place to put the journalism”

Candice is such a terrific thinker ahd writer and this is so upsetting

The simple reality is that exchanging ten minute voice notes with my friends (when we don’t have a few to hop on the phone or catch up) and vent about life/gush about whatever movie or album we’re obsessed with does untold amounts of good for my brain.

People are so cool (except when they aren’t)

My health premium went from ~$350 to $700.
KEEP SHARING YOUR STORIES about increased ACA premiums due to the disappearance of subsidies. The stories clearly are having an impact, they help people feel less helpless, and they create solidarity that leads to action.

Mine went from $395→ $821. What happened for you?

Do people genuinely get angry when a review/analysis of something popular gives the story a brief (30 second) summary?

Asking because someone got really annoyed by it on a comment recently and I don't get why lol. It doesn't matter if most people know the thing being discussed; the summary is for—

🎥 It’s A Wonderful Life (1946) 🎥

Damn picture gets me every time 😭. Decided to watch it early this year for a much needed pick me up, and yes, I was in fact picked up.

Will probably rewatch it in a month and give the color version a shot since I’ve never actually watched it.

It is so telling that most of the AI productivity tools I've had shoved down my throat swear they're only taking away the boring/repetitive work and that thinking about that for more than ten seconds shows you that those tasks you're automating are almost always the fundamentals to learning a trade.

In other news, I'm off to go edit a one hour podcast where a couple of lawyers praise AI and had a one minute aside where they rip on people who still seek out physical media/VHS tapes 🙂

If only they knew one of those freaks are editing their show.

I'm not saying that the Mets 2025 collapse was caused by my job of the past 8 years dropping me from FT to PT out of nowhere and sending my life into a spiral I have yet to climb out of, but I am saying that the timing was almost 1:1 in sync, and that the vibes have been dire in my life ever since

I could literally care less about legalization but man do I hate having to deal with my neighbors smoking weed in their backyard on a Friday at noon. Like guys, some of us are working and can smell that *inside their houses*.

I know, I'm an old man. But like nah bro, take that shit inside.

laughed out loud at a post on linkedin complaining that AI has made all the posts on linkedin "sound the same"

sorry but that's not one you can totally blame chatGPT for

I love how every video editor on the planet has the biggest hate boner for Adobe. Every November, without fail, every editor I know throws their hands in the air and collectively threatens to nuke their account until they get a discount.

And frankly? I love how we come together like that.

Say it!

The quality is 👎 these days and I don’t get why people gobble it up … the only explanation is they either forgot or are too young to remember Behind the Music (which was pretty formulaic to begin with, but wasn’t made to flatter anyone or function as celebrity image management)!
Behind the Music had far more intimate, honest, and complex portraits of artists than most of these recent celebrity documentaries coming through the slop machine these days.

So tonight/tomorrow is the four year anniversary of my best friend dying in a car accident and, because the trilogy was something like the Rosetta Stone for our friendship, I’m watching BTTF II tonight

Cool detail I noticed.

I'm having a hard time placing my WICKED: FOR GOOD review, so to the masses I go: I have forgotten more about the play and novel than most people will ever know to begin with, and I would be a huge asset to your outlet.

I'll happily pub on my own, of course, but being paid is also nice!

Gotta love checking your medical coverage and learning that you're about to go from paying $300 a month to $700 next year :^).

Love that. Absolutely love that.
