👏 Yes Yes a million times over. I recently saw Over the Garden Wall and adored it/thought it had a very strong flashback episode. But I also think it would’ve been fine without it!

I think it's because, in the face of literal evil, something so comparatively small just reads as childish/petty. It's the smallest reminder that there really is zero good faith in the guy.

Yeah, it did. I just meant the David Ellison of it all. But you're totally right, I can't see many studios being proud to wave this movie and it's themes around.

Shame, because it's probably the most compelling part of the movie (which was otherwise fine, if not kinda whatever)

I'm curious about this too, especially since it was distributed by Paramount of all people and they have a sale to consider

the handful that don't. Also, it's just good form/a convenient transition to use to segue from an intro into your analysis!

Yeah, I had that thought too. Perfect little film any time of the year, especially since much of the first half takes place in June or so!

Last thought: the process is the point. And it's weird to hire someone to cut for you based on their work/technical ability/knowledge, only to defer to advertising for products that swear you'll never have to use that knowledge/experience (in exchange for a hefty monthly fee)

Like wtf are we doing.

that is based on art. We might only be producing disposable content that would never be considered art, but there's still *an art* to making it. You take out the boring steps in the process, and you damage the integrity of the whole thing.

I dunno, just thinking out loud/venting at this point.

This isn't even me being a Luddite; there are automated tools/machine learning tools I love (mostly for noise removal or creating a transcript to help me find specific moments after the fact). It's just that so many people I work with fall for this productivity trap when we're working in a field—

"Automate syncing your footage and setting up your cameras on timelines!"

Why? That's boring, yes, but it's an important part of familiarizing yourself with what you're cutting.

"Automate removing breaths from your audio!"

Okay, but if you mess something up it'll take longer for me to fix it.

I've never heard that term before but am obsessed with it!

Tangentially, that exact behavior online has been making it easier for me to forgive exceptionally on the nose media like the new Superman/The Running Man movieds. Folks need all the hints about what something is about that they can get 😭

The way I groaned at the posts in the thread. You couldn't have made it any clearer, and it bugs me to no end how people wanna run in with a take on something before reading the thing they have a take on
