Bernard-Henri Lévy, eminent buffoon. Picture it: what if a no-account pop philosopher wanted real badly to Henry Kissinger (even added the first name to his). But this old asshole biggest achievement is still his first one: derailing the image of the French public intellectual.

SENTIMENTAL VALUE (Trier): Let's exorcise cinematic modernism tonight, kids! Let every scene be "momentous!" Only simple character dynamics! Let's humanize the artists around us, they are not monstrous, they care! Smart cookies will remember something however: Art is not interested in your suffering

Ah, fond memories of when some journos dared to suggest some films of Ivan Reitman's gobbled...
To rebound on this, the French cinephiles do know Tavernier. They like him and his films. The critics have generally been harder on Tatave.

As for the outrage, it was mostly about Skorecki daring to say that BACK TO THE FUTURE was crap. Really. The nerve. A million grown children in tears wah-wah.

It's been abt a year since we republished the first supernatural horror novel in English literature, in a modernized text by Steven Moore. ‘The Adventures of Lady Egeria’ (1585) is an incredibly gruesome & violent book that shows the stylistic influence of John Lyly asterismbooks.com/product/the-...

In the Albert Béguin French translation, this madcap little book had a lot in, of course humor but also, lyricism. For lovers of the run-on sentence, of authorial inserts and digressions, the Appendix (a parallel genre to the novel, don't need Antoine Volodine to come up with one) is a must.
Jean Paul’s ‘The Parson in Jubilee: An Appendix’ (1797) is translated from German (and studiously annotated with footnotes) by Matthew Spencer. Publication date of Nov. 18. See here for a partial preview of the book’s interior:
