There really is a George Orwell quote for everything right now:

If people cannot write well, they cannot think well, and if they cannot think well, others will do their thinking for them.

Today is International Non-Binary People's Day and the first day of Non-Binary Awareness Week

The day was first celebrated in 2012, started by Katje van Loon. The date was chosen for being precisely midway between International Women's Day and International Men's Day.

The Unbroken: Deleted Scenes 2 – Cantic
Hello, again, beloveds! I've just spent a week and a half at the residency for the Vermont College for Fine Arts (in California--I know), where I'm now part of the writing MFA faculty. I'm pleasantly wrung out and simultaneously sodden and heavy as a sponge. It was great sharing a space with so many creatives from so many disciplines, and I'm full of ideas and possibility.

There are 4.5 million children living in poverty in the UK.

Meanwhile, there are more British billionaires than ever before.

I think we should tax the rich to lift children out of poverty. Why is that such a radical idea?

A central theme of Starmer's government seems to be emerging;

to make it hard/impossible for people to go to the toilet.
🚨A hugely important point made by Richard Burgon which all Labour MP’s thinking of voting for this Bill should be made aware of

Just completed it. Took me all freaking day. Reading the code of practice was eye opening. Disgusting piece of policy rife with discrimination that should never have gotten as far as it has.
The EHRC consultation on their draft code of practice closes Monday at midnight – if you want to fill it in, now’s the time!

The consultation closes on Monday (30th June) at 11:59pm, so don’t leave it until 11:58 to fill it in - get it out the way now!

Politics is not a game. It's people's lives.

The Government's welfare cuts will have a catastrophic impact on the sick & disabled, and plunge hundreds of thousands of people into poverty.

It's simple: show some humanity and drop this Bill, now.

Wild to think that everyone could be free and happy and their true selves and have a basic income and healthcare and have their needs understood and met by society and not be displaced or killed and instead we’re choosing this

I am begging, even if you think there's no point, even if you have tried before, please contact your MP and ask them to vote against the cuts on the 1st.

As we all have been saying for ages this is the only way a bathroom bill can work: If one of JK Rowling's hate-filled cultists thinks you or your mum doesn't look sufficiently feminine then they will post your photos online and try to ruin your life. They will target trans and cis people alike.
JK Rowling’s words are reckless and put trans people at risk. Saying “decent men will stay out” and encouraging people to photograph and shame others in toilets invites random harassment. This isn’t about safety, it spreads fear and hate. Trans people deserve respect and protection.

ON TOP of the ethical reasons to not use AI, it's also
1) bad at what it does
2) literally makes you stupider
3) has HUGE environmental costs: every search is equivalent to pouring out an entire bottle of water. It's not worth it to generate a cutesy emoji or have it write an error-riddled draft.
AI was trained on my books (without my permission and against my will) so this annoys me. I never use AI. Not for research, not for images, not for writing. AI used me.
