This week we drop episode 67! We're getting in on the remaster trend by re-recording and releasing our "lost" episode that we did live at PAX East in 2024! The original audio was lost (thanks, Bernard the tech guy...), which was a tragedy!

Stay tuned!

It's a travesty that there's no decently cheaply priced option for pierogies in this country (at least, here in CO). Back home, those No Name giant bags of pierogies sustained me through university and vet tech college. 🇨🇦

NEW: Sean Duffy frequently calls safety his “top priority” as transportation secretary. But I spent months wading through regulatory notices and found something far different: that USDOT has been delaying, weakening and killing dozens of safety rules, many opposed by the transportation industry.🧵

SeaWorld, you can't hurt an elder millennial like this. Naming a ride after SeaQuest is just MEAN.

I'm not sure I'll ever wrap my head around the folks who go after the scientists tagging sharks. I worked at the govt level back home in animal welfare for a while. I've heard a lot of wacky things. But that really kind of takes the cake. Like they hate external fin tags etc. 🤷

Always when I'm starting a podcast recording, too.
I understand some people consider them necessary.

Did an evening bike ride over to our local McD's tonight and got some ice creams. Definitely saw folks loading up tonight on their free redemptions. If nothing else, if some free ice cream, apple pies, etc bring some joy to folks these days, good.
The free food we got from the McD's Monopoly (you could get 10 free entries a day) seems to be sustaining a lot of folks where I live this month. I hadn't set foot in one in years but I can't pass up free food as a poor person. Trying to buy a bit too because redeeming 5+ things/day feels weird.

Hey, do ya like Sturgeon? We sure do! Want to learn about how repopulating their native habitats can actually help humans, too? I bet you do! Check out episode 66, with our friend and incredible guest, Dr. Jeff Wyatt! You can find the episode on your podcatcher of choice, right now!

A great episode with a guest the three of us are so thrilled to get. Dr. Wyatt has been a mentor to many of us lab animal folks for a long time. :)

AALAS is our opportunity every year to help facilities new to #zebrafish to make connections and understand that support is out there for them. It's incredibly gratifying to connect with those folks.
This week, Amber and Christine attended #AALAS2025, the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science National Meeting. We were there supporting @zebrafishhusbandry.bsky.social, both taking part in multiple seminars and panels, as well as volunteering at the information booth for ZHA.

I'm thankful I get to do this at my local zoo, having a great time with docent training.
Today is the International Day of Zoo and Aquarium Educators! This week, Amber and Christine learned from educators at @aquariumpacific.bsky.social! They went to the aquarium twice, and a whale watch. Thanks to all the educators for helping us to learn about, and connect with wildlife! #IZEDay2025

If anyone wants a shark pin that can't make it to #AALAS2025 let me know. I'm happy to get them for folks. They are a $5 donation to the AALAS Foundation, which supports us lab animal folks and getting the word out about the work we do.

Folks attending #AALAS2025: The zebrafish talks are in a venue outside! Cross the Rainbow Bridge (😭) and pass the massive theatre, go around the left side of it. If you see the giant Wyland (remember Wyland???) you are in the right place.

We can all agree that the Kurzgesagt cannabis video was weird, right? Like not the stuff they usually do. I don't even partake but I thought that video was rough.
