Since I've been seeing a lot of victim blaming and Republicans using the paradox of tolerance to try and bully people into mourning Charlie Kirk, here is your daily reminder that the paradox of tolerance is a fascist manipulation tactic used to silence marginalized communities.

If you think that being an empath is the same thing as having empathy AKA basic human decency because #charliekirk said so then you should be fucking embarrassed. Cause they are not even remotely close to being the same thing.

It's sad to see that Bluesky is just another cesspool of performative allies for the transgender community. I imagine it won't be long before it goes the way of Tumblr and Meta.

As a former Texas State Rep, let me be clear: LOCKING Rep. Nicole Collier inside the chamber is beyond outrageous.

Forcing elected officials to sign “permission slips” & take police escorts to leave? That’s not procedure. That’s some old Jim Crow playbook.

Letting political and religious ideologues control children’s reading choices leads to censoring their exposure to prize-winning literature and reflects obvious prejudices against books about racism and LGBTQ+ issues. It sacrifices scientific knowledge to faith and, in some cases, ignorance.”

If so, it would be a big year for #SpiderMan, who is gearing up for his next starring role in Brand New Day on July 31. 🕸️

Velshi Banned Book Club: Author Angie Thomas and a big win against censorship in Florida
In August of 2024, a group of publishers, students, parents, and best-selling authors including Velshi Banned Book Club vets like Julia Alvarez, Laurie Halse Anderson, Jodi Picoult, and Angie Thomas filed a lawsuit against Florida for book banning provisions within House Bill 10-69, which saw 700+ beloved works of literature removed from shelves in the state. And this week, “we pushed back, and we won,” says author Angie Thomas. The freedom to read was upheld. “None of these books are obscene” wrote the judge in a 50-page decision. Books "are a gateway" to empathy, says Thomas. "They allow us to step into lives unlike our own.”
