Sonic & Knuckles incorporated lock-on technology. If you put Sonic 3 in to S&K you get Sonic 3 & Knuckles. If you put Sonic 2 in to S&K you can play Sonic 2 as Knuckles. If you put Sonic 1 in to S&K you get Blue Sphere.
