I can’t stand the “Singapore-on-Thames” argument, not just because no one actually knows what it means beyond vague talk of low taxes, but because Singapore and the UK are completely incomparable economies. It’s pure fantasy to think we could somehow recreate a Singapore-style economy here
Sir Keir Starmer must harness Britain’s post-Brexit freedoms to transform the country into “Singapore-on-Thames” in the wake of a global trade war launched by President Trump, Jeremy Hunt has said
Jeremy Hunt: Turn UK into ‘Singapore-on-Thames’ to survive trade war

My prediction: The stock market will continue to tumble. As investors adjust to the grim economic reality, markets will begin a slow recovery. Trump will claim this as proof his plan is “working,” conveniently ignoring the ongoing recession and that markets remain far worse than when he took office
Trump strategy: deny reality, make a bold prediction, and hope everyone forgets when it doesn’t happen.
If only markets ran on wishful thinking..

I’ve written the cover story for this week’s edition of @theneweuropean.bsky.social – on JD Vance as the creepy VP, who has leveraged his…unique…brand of charm into an incredibly consequential role.

With subscribers tomorrow, on news stands Thursday, and online soonish…

The Americans are finding out that a governing strategy based on "owning the libs" and "annoying all the right people" is a really crap way to run a country. The UK could have told them that.

Let’s shout this loud & clear so maybe President Trump will hear it.

President Zelenskyy is the democratically elected leader of a sovereign country, a hero who is bravely standing against the illegal invasion of Ukraine by a murderous ACTUAL dictator called Vladimir Putin

Worth stating simply what’s happening. An American government is launching a full-scope political & economic assault on an ally repelling an ongoing invasion to compel them to terminate martial law, topple their president, hand over minerals to America & accept a ceasefire w/out security guarantees.

Me: I can’t believe UK voters chose to torch their economy with Brexit. That can never be topped.

Long ago, last month, It would attract accusations of conspiracy theorising to say that Trump was a Russian asset. Now, the only question is whether or not he knows he is.

I have no idea what Trump’s relationship is with the Russian government. However if the Russians were able to place an agent at the top of the US government, that agent would be hard pressed to do more damage to US society and international relationships than Trump is doing now.

NEW: This is brilliant from Trudeau.

"Today, the US launched a trade war against Canada - their closest partner & ally, their closest friend. At the same time, they're talking about working positively with Russia, appeasing Vladimir Putin - a lying, murderous dictator. Make that makes sense." 💥

Trudeau: "They're talking about working positively with Russia, appeasing Vladimir Putin- a lying, murderous, dictator. Make that make sense. Canadians are reasonable and we are polite. But we will not back down from a fight...Canada will be implementing 25% tariffs against $155b of American goods."
