When I talk to people -- family, even -- about how much trouble we are in as we face a week of temperatures in the late 20/early 30°C range two weeks before winter, and the conversation simply shuts down. Eyes glazed. People do not want to acknowledge how irrevocably fucked we are.

No religion in politics - not now, not ever, not anywhere. My atheism doesn't impact you - your faith shouldn't affect me. Yet religion and authoritarianism seem to walk hand in hand whenever they're allowed to do so, seemingly always steeped in persecution and prejudice. No thanks.
This is terrifying.

Australians must act to stop this replication of America’s Christian extremist takeover. The Coalition has gifted us the opportunity to bring it out of the shadows.

NEVER vote LNP or Family First.

The Coalition commits to Christian Nationalism
The Republican Party thought it could ride the tiger of the Christian Right: instead, that movement swallowed the party whole.

"Allowed to wield silence so freely, any institution will become insatiable. It's not only that the absence of information allows those complicit in but unaffected by wrongdoing to look away. The silence itself becomes an empty canvas, onto which any fantasy can be painted." [1]

My 5yo niece just asked me about who Donald Trump is and why he's always on the TV, and whether we like him. I explained it all as best I could, age appropriate.

Then she asked how come he is popular if he's such a bad person, and why do bad people to be in charge?

That's a big one, baby girl.

Australia needs realistic, long-term, affordable rental options. Not everyone wants to or can afford to own a home. For the 20 years pre-covid I never struggled to afford rent. Now I constantly worry about money and losing my home, and even more about where I will live in old age.

We are overshooting the capacity of our ecosystem. We can't keep feeding massive populations on factory farmed animal products & must consider animal products-if they are to be eaten at all-as luxuries, not primary nutrition sources. Pollution, monocropping, disease: convenience is unsustainable.
Study shows widespread H5N1 bird flu infection in cattle
Scientists are sounding alarms about a genetic mutation that was recently identified in four dairy cow herds, nearly one year after H5N1 bird flu was first reported in Texas dairy cattle.

Non-millionaires voting for RW parties that wish to dismantle & destroy public services is the most confounding example of cognitive dissonance. That Australia is even contemplating electing a far-right corrupt ex-cop who's buddy-buddy w/ greedy mining magnates who've not paid their dues is insane.

Had a dream the other night that bird flu turned into a kills-two-thirds-of-the-population pandemic and also the sky was on fire. Just putting this here in case I accidentally peered into the future.

Happy democracy day, Western Australia. Premier Roger Cook is right about JD Vance being a knob, but his choice to sell WA to the mining companies is entirely wrong, so be sure to preference @greens.org.au first and send #walabor a message that we want our incredible biodiversity protected.

. @albomp.bsky.social Any chance we could stop letting these tech megacorps get disgustingly rich off the back of Aussie's data and attention? A little tax could go a long way. Stand up to those greedy bullies, Australia wants policies that put people first.
