Giant cardioid: version 2.5. Version 1.0 was made using Pex tubing and grommet tape. Version 2.0 was made from laser-cut pieces. The wood was too fragile, and it broke during construction. In version 2.5, I made the pieces wider and I used thicker wood. Success, I'd say! The diameter is about 5 ft.

Interesting, just goes to show you that you should remain skeptical of initial reported information as often as not, it will likely contain incorrect facts. Don't just jump to preconceived biases. In this day and age information spreads so quickly that it is both a blessing and a curse.
A man collapsed in the Oval Office yesterday. The internet got the story wrong.

My experience struggling to correct the record — including on Bluesky! — and the warning signs as AI, aggregation, and social media increasingly drive our news consumption.

Meanwhile on Mars...

The planet is covered with odd gullies that look like they were carved by running water. A cool new experiment demonstrates that they were probably carved by sliding, spitting chunks of dry ice. (Sorry, still no signs of life.) 🧪🔭

Introducing Ozzy! This prehensile-tailed porcupine, Zoo Boise's newest resident, is already becoming a star. 🌠

Settling into the renovated Small Animal Kingdom's Rainforest Building, Ozzy likes to nimbly climb and flip around his habitat’s canopy.

:My brain:

Chemistry Degree: Helium has a full valance shell of electrons and is a very unreactive Noble gas.

Physics Degree: ☝️ Actually, if Helium reaches a high enough density and temp (~1M K) it can undergo fusion and release a tremendous amount of energy. 💥 🤓

This is amazing y’all.

White dwarf pulls He from neighbor star causing dwarf-surrounding explosion…

…causing inward traveling shockwave that compresses dwarf star’s core & results in supernova.

Many a nuclear weapons designer was an astrophysicist b/c that’s a closest analogue to a NUDET.

@zohrankmamdani is a deeply thoughtful human being and we think he would make the best NYC mayor imaginable. We feel this as New Yorkers, as Jews and as human beings who are desperate for kindness, compassion and empathy to be represented in our politics.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

I wonder if the 100K blockers includes blocks from people using block lists? If not, the number could be much higher.

I looked and the account is block for me because of a block list I subscribe to. (Right wing propaganda and their followers)

I just learned about a creature called the Conehead Mantis, and it is legit an alien.

It would be the stuff of nightmares to be the prey of this thing, caught in its raptorial claws and then munched on by this face.

Frist time I've seen HiRes images of this phenomenon. Pretty cool.
HiPOD: A Martian Dust Avalanche

Relatively dark slope streaks are common on steep dust-mantled slopes of Mars. At high resolution), we can clearly see that surface material has been removed from the upper slopes as expected from landslides.
