The thing about the 90s in Portland is rent was really fucking cheap. When I moved here in 89 Portland had one of the lowest costs of living for a city its size. It was a scruffy (and very white for sure) blue collar sort of town. That vibrant music scene etc, that was the product of cheap rent.

A good trick is when you hear or read "the economy" in the news, simply substitute the term "corporate profits" and suddenly the story is accurate.

There's a school of thought that it's more important for a brand's design language to be easily recognizable than actually pleasant and attractive, and that these things are often at odds with each other.

Thanks! I'll have to look at it every day for at least a year and a half, possibly much longer until I can build new cabinets and do the total remodel, so I put in a little effort. I've been burned by past me on the "temporary" fixes.

Half of all renters in Portland are rent burdened and 25% are severely burdened. As rents continue to rise and more and more people end up on our streets, we need to have a serious discussion about what the community needs to make sure that people can stay housed.

I'd say "you deserve this car!" but that could easily be misinterpreted.

2/3 for me, I'm in outer NE. Still not a bad trip outside of rush hour.

I was thinking of real bollards, vs. these placebo bollards. My brief research into the commercial bollard marketplace didn't turn up any serious crash rated bollards that didn't require pouring a bunch of concrete.
