Once bitten, Guthrie has thoroughly inspected the innards of his 6spd transaxle and deemed them Good. He also discovered it's a somewhat improved later model gearbox, so bonus there. It may find its way into his car sooner than later if he needs to replace his clutch.

Okay this is ridiculous.

POV: In solidarity with the Blazers as they prepare to face the hard-rebounding Rockets, I'm boxing out as I wait for a $4.99 Costco rotisserie chicken to drop.

It's interesting that it got semi memory holed that the FBI took a whole bunch of recordable media out of Epstein's house, which was extensively wired for sound and video, in 2019. I've seen some mention of it lately, but I wonder why this isn't being discussed more. Maybe it's all bootleg anime.

I finally finished properly installing the new induction range. The "temporary-til-I-redo-the-kitchen" shelf and countertop were built from scraps of plywood, black walnut, and cheap melamine shelving I had on hand. The range really highlights the horribleness of the rest of the kitchen.

Bad news! The Guthrie's 2zz has a bunch of sparkly bits in the oil pan, and it's seized. The transmission is fine, so he'll keep that, and return the engine. Ofc the absolute predators at Pick-n-Pull don't give cash refunds, only credit, so he'll have to wait for another 2zz to appear.

This came out really well! The mandate was "easy to play," so I put on very light strings (.10s) and sanded about .012" off the bottom of the nut. Other than that it just needed a truss rod tightening, so I didn't get to mess with the patented Taylor neck angle adjustment system.

Guthrie's 2zz engine has made it to the patio, and the motorcycle has Gone Away, so now he has 3 engines strewn about, but no motorcycles. He found a tag from a local salvage parts operation, so the engine is not original to the car. Mystery! He'll pull the head and inspect the bores soon.

Grace is joining me for the 1st quarter of the Blazers game.

Or maybe Mattel? It's hard to take this kind of styling seriously. I had an '81 base 2wd, and of all the cars I've owned that's the one I most want back. IDK if a cute little retro styled Toyota EV truck would sell in the U.S., but they could at least try?

Guthrie making wise investment decisions, as ever. The high-revving, Yamaha-engineered Toyota 2zz engine is most famous for being in the Lotus Elise sports car, but it was also found in some Toyota Matrix wagons. The plan is this engine and 6spd transmission will eventually go in his MR2 Spyder.

We did dim sum brunch for my twins' birthday. First time at Excellent Cuisine, formerly east side institution Wong's King. It's basically the same place with a different name. A good time was had by all.

I'm building an expedient little shelf to fill the space next to the stove. I'll have to do something fairly hokey for the countertop. This is "temporary" until I redo the whole kitchen, but that's realistically at least 2 years out, so I'm trying to make it tolerable to live with for a while.
November 8, 2025 at 7:56 AM
I never fixed the oven, and yesterday we got a new induction range. Ofc it's the cheapest one. Hilariously, like the old stove, it's a Frigidaire. Guthrie and his apprentice ran a new wire to replace the crusty 75 y.o. one. A nice vintage appliance sicko came and took the old monstrosity.

It's retro!

I'm doing a basic setup on a snazzy little Taylor mahogany top parlor guitar. This is the first time I've done this on someone else's guitar, and this one is brand spanking new. I'm not scared, though.

My election anecdata: There was a big line of cars at the library dropping off ballots (we all vote from cars in E Portland). I had to wait on 122nd Ave to even turn left into the parking lot. Would all these people be out in the cold November twilight to vote against the 1 thing on the ballot?

I've spent several hours analyzing Shaedon Sharpe's block of Aaron Gordon's jumper at the end of last night's game, and while the block itself was fine, I have some concerns. Is Shae showing enough emotion here? What do his body language and facial expression say? Does he even care?

I picked up the 1/2" aluminum to finish the lower frame of my CNC router from my partners at the Metal Supermarket. I'll need another kidney for the gantry material, but this will keep me busy for a minute. Also, fasteners, omg. In related news, I do handy home repairs and improvements for money.

Still enjoying the tail end of the summer garden. I'm not preserving any peppers, we just eat a lot of spicy food. I need to up production next year. Typically, I kinda lost focus as far as the fall/winter stuff, but we do have some bok choi, which we have to race the slugs for.

XJ12 spotted at Bimart. Vibed like it was being regularly driven, possibly by the barky dog in the driver's seat. Interesting customization with hand painted red accents and extremely cheap-looking LED driving lights. I resisted going back inside to see if I could spot the owner. #weirdcarbs

Making a little headway on my CNC router project. I've made gussets for the lower part of the frame. My scheme to machine the parts with 3D printed templates is working pretty well, which is good because I've printed a bunch of templates. The big ones take like 8hrs to print.

I got an aluminum cutting blade for my band saw to rough out 1/2" plate parts for my CNC router frame and I ended up doing a little band saw maintenance side quest. It's cool that parts are available for these old Craftsman saws. The new blade works well, and it doesn't fling chips everywhere.
