We need to normalize this tbh
Man answering his phone on the train: Yes? Correct, I’m not at work (pause) I’m not going to answer that because I am not at work today. No, you’re going to have to ask someone who is. Goodbye.

I'm not sure that FIFA breaching it's own ethics rules counts as news.

As for shortcuts, there was a cheating epidemic long before AI. Students cheat using AI for the same reasons they used a cheat sheet. We need to change the culture of grades and learning, and create more meaningful assignments.

The Real Way to Stop Cheating in an AI World
As AI use in schools grows, educators may need to reassess their presumptions on what causes cheating and how it can be addressed.

Great. However this will not move the needle on support for the new administration or that Rep. We may feel better for watching it but, unfortunately, it is politically irrelevant.
Everyone should watch CNN's Jim Acosta's dismantling of a GOP Rep's evasions over Trump's 1/6 pardons. On the pod, we feature excerpts. @mattgertz.bsky.social and I dig into why Acosta's moment is so rare in the land of 1/6 euphemism that defines much media discourse:

CNN Anchor Wrecks Trump Defender in Brutal On-Air Shaming Over Jan. 6
As CNN’s Jim Acosta crucifies a MAGA lawmaker over Trump’s Jan. 6 pardons, a press critic reflects on why we don’t see more of this—and how this failing has enabled pro-Trump propaganda to succeed.

"but left many of the specifics unclear" should be appended to any news story on policy announcements for the next 4 years.
During his Inaugural Address on Monday, President Trump again promised to launch U.S. astronauts to Mars. He linked landing on the Red Planet with Manifest Destiny, but left many of the specifics unclear. Here's what we know.

Perhaps now we can stop arguing about polls and what teams look like and instead focus on what they have actually achieved. 12 teams should be reduced to 8 and those 8 should be the power 4 conference finalists. If Notre Dame wants to compete then join a conference.

Different tools, same plan. They have been trying for years to get kids in rows in auditorium size rooms doing their own work independently on screens while a handful of adults roam the room to keep order
"Instead of traditional classroom teachers, the school will employ 'guides,' who won't teach students academics but will instead ... point them to the right video explanation"

This is what they mean when they say AI won't *replace* teachers - it'll *deprofessionalize* them
Lots of education *innovation* coming - like this new virtual charter school in Arizona that will use AI in place of teachers www.azcentral.com/story/news/l...

Producing useless bullshit more quickly is not an improvement in educational outcomes. Why would doing things in "a fraction of the time" is usually takes be a good thing? Why do we so disrespect the labor of teaching and learning as to wish it away by outsourcing it to something that cannot think?
