1. Comics used to be printed with a limited color palette, as seen in this picture. Any given area could be filled with 0%, 25%, 50%, or 100% of Cyan, Yellow, Magenta, or Black (CYMK). If you look closely at old comics, you can see the colored dots. The original art remained black and white.

A serious question for you, person who might or might not read comics on occasion but isn't a regular reader: how can I, a nerd, convince you, a normal person, to read a comic? I write some initial thoughts about it in my newsletter, but I really want to know.

Just read Fantastic Four #293-295 for the 1986 @mymarvelousyear.bsky.social book club.

Entertaining and full of that classic FF charm, but not a ton of forward momentum—except for the final issue. Now onto The Avengers. 🪐📚💙

I hit Gold II ranking today, which means the My Marvelous Year podcast is only talking about Marvel Rivals from now on, no more comic talk.

Is Steve Englehart's bringing back "Cap & Bucky of the 1950s" to explain publishing incongruencies the first instance of metatextual storytelling in Marvel? It's such a cool story arc.

And add to that the influences ON your favorite writers and artists.

I fell in love with Love & Rockets this year, which led me to read Archie comics for the first time in my life, because the Hernandez brothers. cite is as a huge influence.
Comics really open up a lot when you stop focusing your reading exclusively on specific DC/Marvel characters and instead follow around writers and artists whose work you enjoy because you will almost inevitably open yourself up more to new stories, genres, and voices.
