Forgot to mention I am happily identifying mushrooms all weekend with a bunch of cool and interesting people! 🍄📸

If anybody requires beggartick seeds, I have about a thousand attached to my pants

To the squirrel whose king bolete I stole: sorry, I'll return it tomorrow!!

Alice Wong taught us that disabled people don’t just leave memories behind—they leave infrastructure. Lineages of care. Methods of collectivity, survival. She named the connective tissue that holds our communities together, even across death, even across the losses that come too fast and too often.

Remembering Alice Wong with her own beautiful words, speaking about the inevitability of death in Time in 2024.

A graceful soul, with the strength to not just endure, but share with the rest of us, in ways we will all be processing for a long time. Thank you, Alice.

Alice Wong had a huge heart. Known foremost for her fierce eloquence for disability justice, she saw all struggles for justice as interconnected, from Palestinian liberation to even my small corner: #adoptee rights. She reached out to encourage me to keep speaking. I never knew her, but I loved her.
I am gutted to learn of @sfdirewolf.bsky.social (Alice Wong’s) passing. She was always a warm friend, a wonderful spirit, and someone who fostered my own growth. She helped me see that, as a #disabled person with chronic illness, I matter—I am whole. I’ll be posting some of Alice’s work. ❤️ forever

abolishing the private #adoption industry and ending the legal practice of plenary adoption—the irreversible rewriting of a child’s legal identity and falsification of their natal kinship relations—does *not* mean abolishing long-term custodial care for a child who needs it. +

Starting my car and being forced to listen to an ad for the Mr Ballen podcast on the stinking Sirius XM trial station is very surreal. I hate that my (10+ YO) car advertises to me without my consent. It was such a slippery slope

Enjoying an audiobook set during the troubles and like *6 hours* in the (I thought very hetero) main character has a gay experience and smokes some weed and like. Why did you wait this long to sell me???

Deeply appreciate CAA for the time every few years where I lock my keys in my car and instead of ruining my day it becomes an expedient non-issue

(Or it would have if I hadn't insisted on tearing the house apart in search of my spare key before calling for help, still v easy)

New incredible detail here: ICE says a match in its facial recognition app Mobile Fortify is a "definitive" determination of a person's status, and that this overrides birth certificates. This is an app ICE is using in the field to scan people

Failing to fund food stamps is comic book villain shit. Just incredibly cruel.. I feel for the community orgs that will step in to fill the gaps.

(Good reminder to local folks in Ontario that ODSP is also nowhere near liveable, especially in a housing crisis. But at least it exists .)

Nespresso does a much better job of pretending their coffee pods are "recyclable" but if I were them this shit would scare me.

Dear small creators in the US: I will be purchasing nothing from you effective immediately until the absolutely unreasonable surprise custom fees cease.

A fee that is 60% of the cost of the item added on top of frankly unmanageable. Sunk cost fallacy obviously applies but now I just feel awful.

Wow, turns out taking time off work for yourself is enjoyable and refreshing!!! I feel pretty great 😁

Also... got paid for some mushroom ID work earlier this month and immediately turned around and ordered Fungi of Temperate Europe. Excited for my 1700 pages of beautiful mushrooms to arrive 🍄

The American govt shutdown is hindering my ability to access 2 of my favourite databases (genbank and the USDA fungal collection db) and I'm grumpy about it. Sucks that this kind of (internationally relevant) infrastructure is dependent on us govt funding

Can you spot all 3 salamanders in my 2nd pic?

Just went to grab something from my car in the rain/dark and there were 4 wee salamanders hanging out on the front stoop!!!!! 🥹🥰 Maybe they live underneath the boards with the chipmunks ??

I take no pleasure in this but going to a different city with your dumb buddies and getting badly injured because you antagonized a bunch of strangers and fell down twice chasing the 110lb teenager who stole your sunglasses actually is North Jersey Excellence, of a sort.

Oops made a mistake here but I don't wanna redo the whole skeet

Chalciporus piperatus is not a hardwood associated bolete, it is thought to be mycoparasitic on an Amanita and is found with mixed conifers and birch (I found it in a swampy mixed woods anyways)
I had to spend most of my time indoors but I did find a few old friends in the woods

Chalciporus piperatus, a smallish bolete found under hardwoods that has bright yellow basal mycelium

Pachyella clypeata (Copper Penny, a good common name!)

Now that I have the knowledge squirrels will chew through the entire outer layer of the Forbidden Nut* only to be disappointed by the equally terrible interior, I will never know peace 😭 😭 😭
