Conservative Chronicle editors strike again, burying the lede. In 2018, we taxed rich corporations to fund homeless services. SF voters approved that by over 60%. That's what the Chron and billionaires want to end. Corporations tied it up in court but lost, so money is now being spent.
S.F. has doubled spending on nonprofits since 2019. Is City Hall getting its money’s worth?
San Francisco now spends $1.6 billion on nonprofits annually — 10.2% of the total city budget. That’s compared with $809 million in 2019, or 6.6% of the budget at the time.

This isn’t a gift it’s Bloomberg buying control of the Mayor’s office much as Larson has effectively purchased SFPD.

We should tax these billionaires instead of letting them use their wealth to buy our city government.

We need government by/for the people to replace government by/for billionaires.

It’s time for a city government that puts affordability at the top of the agenda.

If you work in healthcare and aren’t constantly appalled by the suffering people endure over something as stupid and unnecessary as people going without food or proper nutrition (or housing or medicine etc) in the wealthiest country in the history of the world then why are you working in healthcare?

Zohran has now gotten more votes, in New York City alone, than 49 members of the U.S. Senate did when they get elected; It's likely that, when the final tally is complete, he'll have gotten more votes than half of all Senators currently in office. *This* is what power and purpose looks like.

On a related tangent, I think many people mistakenly think, “If COVID were still truly dangerous, then the government (meaning either party) and media would warn us.” What happened instead was they normalized repeated infections as the trade-off for going about your life as you did in 2019.
They also believed he was innocent of crimes because the DOJ never prosecuted him in a meaningful way, including for sedition. In early 2021, most Americans DID think he was guilty. That changed over three years thanks to DOJ inaction. They thought "If he were really a threat, they would stop him."
