2/2 Our ability to reduce carbon emissions is better than the most optimistic projections and medicine has shown giant strides, not only mRNA vaccines but using antibodies to fight cancer that gave Carter years of life. I'm not saying we dented the patriarchy but, absent Trump I'd be optimistic

1/2 One thing that bothers me about our current situation is that in at least two domains we have made great progress. .

Not my favorite week. Two decent but not great from Motown, a Randy Newman song (never a bad idea) a soapy Beatles song and the last gasp of bubblegum rock.
55 years ago, here were the top songs on the Billboard Hot 100 this day in 1970:
1. "The Love You Save" - Jackson 5
2. "Mama Told Me (Not To Come)" - Three Dog Night
3. "Ball Of Confusion" - The Temptations
4. "The Long And Winding Road" - The Beatles
5. "Hitchin' A Ride" - Vanity Fare

Heading into Philadelphia a day early in June for the ALA Conference so I can spend a day at The Mutter Museum.

Already been once, but frankly, ya gotta go multiple times. Like all good museums, it's too much to absorb in one trip.

I find myself wondering how much the Ivy League is to blame for the current chaos in the Democratic party. My two favorite politicians are Elizabeth Warren and Sherrod Brown. Neither lost touch with working people by attending one of the Ivies.

I kept trying to come up with a rebuttal to any of these points — I lived through almost all of it — and I could not.

I was 18 in 1968. I don't remember seeing Eartha Kitt's White House remarks, "The children of America are not rebelling for no reason. They are not hippies for no reason at all. We don't have what we have on Sunset Blvd. for no reason... Mrs. Johnson – we raise children and send them to war."

Teacup brought home her 2nd grade writing portfolio today. Among many cute stories was Gravity Falls fan fiction, and this was on the first page. Reader, I cried. The paper says: dedicated to mom master of weird.

I was reading the NYRB and saw "Internet’s hunger for content in the form of first-person narrative—highly condensed, written in an oblique yet evocative style, anchored in feeling, and built on a fiction of intimacy between authors and their audiences—has surely affected how we evaluate poems."
