Hitting that time of year in the container garden where the roots have filled up the pots and it's still hot so water needs are high, the annuals are getting leggy and looking kind of off, and the novelty of the work is giving way to slight resentment. Need those Sept temperatures...

This is good advice for basically everything, but it’s also really tough to internalize and feel ok when you screw up or things get hard.

Decades in, I still struggle with the mindset shift from “learn to play piano ✅” to “get incrementally better at piano every day until I die.”

I’ve spent much of the last year examining car bloat, the process through which smaller vehicles are being replaced by increasingly massive SUVs and trucks.

What I’ve learned: Huge cars are terrible for society, often in ways that are hidden.
