This quote is an amazingly concise encapsulation of what’s at stake in the US right now. Gov’t agents acting like you don’t have the right to speak to them.
"The two men who detained Diaz would not respond to questions from the Times-Dispatch reporter. 'I don’t know why you think you can talk to us and ask us questions,' said one of the men. When [the reporter] showed one of the men a Virginia press credential, he said, 'I could make that at Kinko’s.'"
'I'm here to pay my taxes': ICE agents make arrests at Chesterfield courthouse
The enforcement action began on Friday with ICE officers returning on Monday and Tuesday as well, said Chesterfield County Sheriff Karl Leonard.

To the end of my days, I will not understand why industries that rely on this research are not losing their minds
Journalists keep asking me, baffled, “What’s the Trump administration really trying to do to the science agencies?”

So I say “They are trying to destroy them. Cut off their funding, ruin their facilities, harass their staff into leaving.”

It’s not reform, and it never was. It’s destruction.
NEW: NSF will be kicked out of their building. Announcement will be made tomorrow by HUD Sec. and Governor of VA. HUD will take over the NSF building over the next two years.

NSF staffer: "There is no planning for NSF, no identified future location, appropriation for a new building or a move."

I’m in a R district anyway, but very disappointed to see some of these names.

It’s a truly awful time not to have an opposition party.
Here are the 128 House Democrats who voted to table (kill) the Rep. Al Green D-TX impeachment resolution against President Trump over the Iran attacks.

The asylum process is horrific. People need lawyers to navigate it successfully, which is incredibly costly. One of the reason you need lawyers is because the slightest inconsistency in your story will be interpreted as you not telling the truth.

Current parenting phase:

Mon: “A+ in advanced math, damn our kid rocks”

Tues: “WHY is there a completely empty Sprite can in the fridge”

Wed: “The govt says you can practice driving a car so I guess let’s do that, soon as I text your grandparents where to find my will”

In 2024, eight men broke 3:30 for the 1500m all year.

It's June 24th, 2025 and 11 men have already broken 3:30 for the 1500m – this does not include the three Paris Olympics medalists (Cole Hocker, Yared Nuguse or Josh Kerr) yet.

This is much more controversial, but I also take the position that whoever makes Ghirardelli's brownie mix has solved brownies.
the best thing I have ever said of homemade ketchup is "this is tolerable" but even then I would be happier with the bottled stuff

heinz solved ketchup, the end, sometimes a food has been perfected and we do not need to go further

you can serve it in a fancy dish if you must
have we won the war. is it finally over. have restaurants stopped trying to do "homemade ketchup"

What Trump learned long ago as a private citizen is that you can easily ruin someone’s life with frivolous litigation even if you ultimately lose in court. And that was when he was spending his own money to harass and intimidate people. Now he’s spending yours.

Every day/every hour makes clearer what was evident two weeks into this Trump admin & GOP congress: that short of all out nuclear Armageddon no foreign enemy could ever destroy this republic, its institutions & its power faster or more sweepingly with nobody to defend it all than what we’re seeing.

I’d like to request companies stop pushing me to keep up my “streak” of using their service. It’s transparently manipulative and dystopian.

I know the answer to my request is “no,” but I’m still putting it out there.

Here's the overview. Seven concurring opinions. One had 7 judges, but none reached the 8 needed to be a majority of the en banc court. One dissent.

They have lied. They are lying now. They will continue to lie. They will always blame someone else. This is what fascists do: they disrupt reality.

We need to expect that convincing people of the truth will be a long, necessary work.

In the U.S. in 1825, *452* out of 1000 children born died before their 5th birthday.

By 1925, that number was 135 out of a 1000 children.

Today, in 2025, that number is *7*

And it is entirely due to advances in medicine, public health, and technology.

Read the whole story. It is shocking and horrifying. The United States government grabbed a man outside of his apartment and within less than 48 hours vanished him from the face of the earth.

He is probably imprisoned in El Salvador. But no one knows! He wasn't on the flight manifest leaked by CBS.
He disappeared after detention. Now ICE is silent on the fate of Venezuelan man
A Venezuelan man has disappeared into the U.S. immigration system. His family is looking for answers.
