We are profoundly saddened by the shootings of MN House Rep Hoffman, his spouse Yvette, and the loss of MN legislator Melissa Hortman and her spouse Mark. Our state and country are in sorrow. We send prayers to the families and those affected. May we continue to pursue peace and solidarity.

"After unanimously passing the Senate earlier this year, a House committee Tuesday, June 3, advanced the bill that would designate nearly two miles of M-22 in Leelanau County as “Company K Indian Veterans 1st Michigan Sharpshooters Civil War Memorial Highway.”

(1/10) Today is Nat'l Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives. Hanna Harris would have been 33 years old. On the 4th of July in 2013, Harris went to Lame Deer on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Montana to watch the fireworks.

It’s National Day of Awareness of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People. I made this for Native American LifeLines Baltimore to honor 2 women who were taken from our community.

Murder is the 3rd leading cause of death for Native women/girls/2spirits, and rates of violence are 10x national average.

Native American communities experience higher rates of violence than the national average. Throughout history, their stories have gone unreported, and their voices silenced, including in the Pacific Northwest.

Today is MMIW Day - a day of awareness for missing and murdered Indigenous women. In NM, I strongly support the new Turquoise Alert system, meant to quickly mobilize community resources to find missing persons from Tribal communities.

The epidemic of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People must end.

MMIP cases are 7x less likely to be solved than any other group. Over 80% of both Native women and men will experience violence in their lifetime.

California is committed to working with tribes to address this crisis.

It should serve as a call to action for all of us to address the epidemic of violence against Native communities, especially women.

I led the first congressional hearing on this epidemic—and I won’t stop fighting until every Native family gets the justice and safety they deserve.
