Zane’s father sending him on a mission to blow a signal tower surrounded by “infected” with a team of civilians. (He’s kind of the worst)
With the tower finally in sight, I crouch at the treeline, eyes fixed on the red-lit signal tower pulsing against the night sky. I will bring it down. I have to. Behind me, the “team” is assembled in a jagged line, outlined by the faint glow of the moon, each a bundle of nerves in the darkness. James clutches a pistol in both hands like it might explode any second. His grin is too wide, his breath too fast. I know this type—too eager, too loud. Dangerous. Then there’s Mara, carrying nothing but a pocket knife she didn’t even seem to know how to open, trembling as she tries to look anywhere but the tower. Beside her, Anna stands stiff and quiet, holding the bag of explosives like a basket of bread rolls, arms steady from years of carrying heavy pots, not weapons. The old man leans on a stick he picked up on the path, a grim line carved into his face. I know better than to underestimate him, despite his limp, he’s fought in wars before anyone in this village was probably born. Between us and the target, a small horde of infected shuffles aimlessly. Their eyes are glazed over and faces slack under the signal’s influence, minds hollow as they wait for instruction—a living shield for the tower.

In a big stretch, subbing “floors” for broomstick because he is talking about cleaning floors which once would do with some broom device 😅

(I’m imagining they’re using a swiffer but the scene didn’t need that level of detail)
After a quick shower, Asher and I tackled the Sunday reset checklist so the apartment was looking really good - me on floors, him on kitchen duty.

Hale’s light skimmed over the entrance of the next landing: Residential Suite B4. The iron door was punctured in places, small jagged holes scattered across its surface. Whispers leaked through—fragmented, overlapping—like a dozen conversations just out of reach. Metal clinked—knives, forks, spoons—tapping against dishes, people gathered around a feast. Brushing dragged in unbalanced strokes—broom bristles sweeping the floor—followed by the groan of wood settling under a heavy weight—someone taking a seat. People? They shouldn’t be. They couldn’t be. But if not… then what are they? Who talks but people? He glanced at the others—pale faces, stiff limbs, stares fixed on the door in utter silence. Maybe he should… Hale lifted a finger to knock, but Camilla clamped it down. “Mother said it’s inadequate to disturb… things when they’re eating. Let’s leave them in peace.”

“Man, I just don’t get you. You can infiltrate a criminal mastermind’s company, hack into secure mainframes, travel to the past on a top secret mission, but you can’t tell one girl how you feel about her?” My fingers falter on the keyboard for half a second, just enough for Cael to notice. “Aha!” He points dramatically. “That right there? That was guilt. The great Fynn Abernathy, genius coder, time-traveling mystery man, protector of the future, brought down by a girl.” “Would you lower your voice? Someone might hear you,” I grumble, not at all pleased that this is probably what the next four hours are going to be like. He leans in, smirking. “Oh, you mean somehow Annora might hear me? Wouldn’t want her to find out her friend’s been secretly pining for her since—what? The moment you crash-landed in her timeline?” Gritting my teeth, I force my eyes on my computer screen, ignoring his pestering. “It’s for the best. I had to keep secrets from her, and now she wants nothing to do with me.” “Is that so?” “Yeah.” “Hmm. Well I happen to be very observant my friend, and the way she looks at you when she knows you’re not paying attention? Dude, even the dumb, non-AI programming we did yesterday could detect the chemistry between you.” I sigh, rubbing my temples. He’s not going to let this go. “It’s complicated,” I mutter, hoping he’ll just shut up and let me work. I love the guy, but it’s hard to get anything done when he’s on a roll.

A lonely house nestled between the trees, camouflaged by roots and leaves. Vines coiled up its sides, clutching the boarded windows, while the roof sagged beneath broken branches and a colony of bird nests. Marcia lowered the map, pistol drawn. Her boot hit the porch step, wood groaning. The door hung ajar, leaking earthy rot and the dense choke of decay. She swallowed a gag and nudged the door wider with the barrel of her gun. Switching her flashlight on, Marcia’s beam swept over a table set for one. Mismatched utensils sat next to a plate bloated with rot. A torn ration packet marked “Westfield Camp” leaned against the plate, its moldy contents leaking sludge into the wood.

Sleeping and waking blurred, full of beautiful faces and singing and rain and sounds of the swamp. The air outside was alive with a cacophony of frogs when Niwa jerked fully awake, staring into the darkness. Snippets of memory wafted back to her. With exploratory movements, she rotated her foot, pointing and flexing. Her range of motion had improved. She reached for her arm wounds, and encountered clean, dry bandaging. The pain had subsided. Since the sky melted into the water on the boat, she had been having a hard time distinguishing dream from reality. The medicines were helping her to heal quickly, but some must have been psychedelic.

fully vanished. There was always a chance the old legacy would try to resurface, since it carried in the veins of the next generation. He shook the thought off. These children were different. They were surrounded by love — the kind Borias had been denied. Borias had been torn from his mother and brother at an early age, twisted and corrupted by the Sith. The boys, by contrast, had been raised with care and devotion, not with greed, cruelty, or hate. Whatever shadows lingered in their bloodline, love had given them strength enough to resist it. She noted his far away look. "Are you alright father ?" Theron chuckled. "Yeah…... thoughts just wandering off as usual." He watched the rain outside as it pattered on the window frames in a steady rhythm. Neon signs flicked on and off in the distance. He took a breath, then nodded. "I'll let you get back to work. Let me know if you need anything." She smiled at him. "I will. Thank you, father." Theron walked out the doorway and into the atrium, glancing over at the mess the boys had made in the eastern half of the sky Palace.

She shimmied off of the bed and raced for the door before those three damn dangerous words could escape. Stopping in the door frame she looked back at him. The words threatened to leap from head to tongue. She swallowed them down, unsure of the taste. He was watching her expectantly. “You okay?” She forced a smile. “Yeah. I’m just gonna miss you is all.” He held that big smile and blew her a kiss. “Me too. See you soon sexy” Sexy. Just sexy. No dangerous words for either of them today then. Fine. She glanced at the watch again. Beyond out of time. She walked away. Outside the dawn lit the world in murky grey; the orange glow of the system's star hidden behind thick clouds. Wind-driven rain hammered the flat plastic roofs of the stilted prefab buildings that made up Miranda colony. Shitty weather for a shitty day.

Will’s favorite bar and grill, Shorty’s, is closing.
The place was pretty full, but Will waved down the young waitress he knew, and she rushed to clear a table for them. Shorty’s might not have looked like much on the outside—a weathered, squat, brick structure on the corner of Main Street and a road nobody remembered the name of. The bar was solid oak, smoothed by years of elbows and spilled drinks. A chalkboard menu hung slightly crooked, offering the night’s specials—Fried Catfish. Meatloaf Monday. Tator Tot Casserole. Locals could sit on worn barstools, talking football, harvest, or who finally fixed their roof after the last storm, or in booths with cracked vinyl seats that lined the walls. A jukebox hummed in the corner, playing a surprising amount of 90’s country. The flat-screen TV above the bar played whatever game was on—nobody watched too closely, but everyone noticed the score, especially if it was Husker football. Salt and pepper shakers sat beside laminated menus that never changed, the burgers were hand-pattied, and the pie (especially the rhubarb) was made by someone’s aunt who still used lard in the crust. Everyone nodded when you walked in. It was a place that felt like home, even if it wasn’t yours, and that’s why Will loved it.

Jace appeared at the doorway. "I came to say I'm sorry. About Satele. About-" Theron cut him off, bitter "Don't...Don't you dare pretend now. You always put the Republic first. You hated the Sith so much that you refused to see anything else. and now you resent me for a partnership with something you hate." Borias straightened, stepping between them slightly. He placed a gentle hand on Theron's chest. The platinum ring glimmered in the light from above them He looked over his shoulder, staring into the hazel eyes with unwavering intensity. "Make no mistake, Commander. I love your son. That will NEVER change. All he ever wanted was love and acceptance. You never gave it. And he resented you for it. You made him bleed for it." Jace clenched his fists fuming. "I gave my life to protect him! To protect the Republic so he'd have a future!" "But yet, you were never there. Do you think duty makes up for absence? For silence? He needed a father, not a symbol draped in medals." Theron was quiet, his green-gold eyes shining with hurt as he watched them tear into each other. The weight of Borias' words hit hard. Jace exhaled sharply, his broad shoulders sagging. For once, he didn't argue. Jace's voice broke, his heavily scarred face pleading. "Stars help me... you're right. I didn't know how to love him. Not the way you do." "Then learn. It isn't too late. He wants a family — even if he never talks about it. I see it now, every time he looks at you." Borias said softly, his deep voice resonated warmth and understanding. "It would be better for him if you accept it, accept him." Theron looked away, fighting his building emotion. "Borias?" he said softly, looking down at his feet Borias turned his head to look at him. "It will be alright dearest, trust me." Theron looked at him, giving the slightest nod The door creaked. Lazuli appeared at the doorway, her presence calm and grounding. "Theron has more love around him now than he had ever dreamed possible." She moved into the room and stood in front of Jace. "you can still be a part of that... If you choose to." Jace stared at her, then at Borias - the Sith he mistrusts, the man his son loves — then at Theron, who won't quite meet his eyes. His jaw tightened, then finally... "For his sake... I'll try." Jace extended a calloused hand. Borias gripped it firmly, their eyes locking - not as enemies, not yet friends, but as men who love the same person. "For his sake, we both shall." Theron lets out a shaky breath, tension easing from his shoulders. For the first time in years, there is the beginning of something he never thought possible-a family.

Letting the photos scatter to the floor, Marc ran his hand, slowly and gently, underneath Bianca’s shirt, along her soft, warm torso, occasionally applying a gentle pressure as he took his time getting to know every inch. He gently started to slide her shirt up towards her head and looked at her for permission. Bianca opened her eyes, making eye contact for just long enough to nod her consent before closing them again, as she slowly raised her arms up over her head and let Marc slide her shirt off, leaving it to fall to the floor on top of the photos.

When [The White Rabbit] was finished wrapping her wound, Alice looked at him curiously, no longer afraid of this (albeit horrifying) creature that saved her. The creature turned back to Edward, and grabbed his leg. Then, it shuffled away into the bushes from which it came from, turned back to Alice, and beckoned her slowly. Then, it dropped into the ground with Edward’s body. Confused, Alice slowly stood, careful not to put too much pressure on her injured leg, and walked over to the bush the rabbit disappeared in. She parted the bushes slowly, and suddenly found herself sliding head first into a huge hole that wasn’t visible before and fell down it.
