this is actually a really common way of understanding the world among pundits where events can only be classified if they fit a strict definition and if they don’t fit that definition then they cannot be classified in that way. it is as if they see definitions as structuring reality.

Old Lady felt bad, and said "I'm so sorry" to the officer. She was then charged with resisting, with the state alleging she intended to harm the officer, and her apology was offered as evidence of "consciousness of guilt."

Their impressions come from stories they hear as background noise. If you want those stories to resonate, they have to be coherent, and you need to invest in media organization.
