It is on the eligibility list. Last film right at the bottom.

To be eligible, an animated film has to receive at least a one-week qualifying run in NY/LA from January 1 to December 31 and then be submitted by the distributor, which Zootopia 2 fulfilled. bsky.app/profile/anim...
The Academy has officially unveiled the animated films that are eligible for the Oscar for Best Animated Feature this year. A lot of interesting picks this year. Curious which ones will be nominated.

What do you mean by cutoff?

I know the thinking is Elio's status as a box-office flop will hurt its Oscar chances, but the reviews were still good and it even has a 3.4 on letterboxd. The only times Pixar didn't get in was when it was a sequel/prequel/spin-off or they had two movies in one year.

Although not just the live-action remakes. Look at 101 Dalmatians and how many different canons exist.

Owl House fans: Oh, Disney making a movie about a teenager who gets transported to a world full of fantasy creatures and develops magical powers? Where have I heard that before?
Me: Halloweentown?
Owl House fans: 😠

Seriously, all you need are Tucker and Chan to bring in people with a fondness for this franchise.

I don't even like the "Rush Hour" movies, which I primarily blame on Ratner, so a fresh perspective from a director who won't indulge in his worst sensibilities could make something passable.

Suzanne Collins even specifically cited Greek myths and Roman history as major influences on The Hunger Games.

Admittedly, I don't pay attention to the Zootopia fandom, but I genuinely didn't know there were people whose main investment in this franchise is waiting to see Nick and Judy hooking up. I've just never gotten any romantic infatuation from those two, to be honest, but more power to them, I guess.

And at least I get the Nick-Judy shippers, despite me disagreeing with them.

Hans tried to kill Anna and Elsa and take over their kingdom, so it just confuses me why there are people who want Elsa and Hans to be a couple.

Although now that I have angered the shippers, who I didn't know were so hardcore about these two fictional animals becoming an item, I want to see Zootopia 3 do a time jump and show Nick and Judy married to other animals and with children. I don't think Howard and Bush are as cheeky as me, though.

Although DreamWorks romantically paired up a donkey and a dragon and a giraffe and a hippo and most everyone seemed okay with those relationships.

My thing is I disagree with people who see a man and a woman be good friends who work well with each other and immediately go "they should date!"
