I'm just a guy that likes talking about animation.

As we enter a new year in a couple of days, I do feel confident that there's promise ahead for what lies next in filmmaking and animation. It might be bumpy, but we're still getting amazing works and we're always gonna get art that will inspire. And that makes me happy.

With 2025 winding down, it's time for me to take a look back at the animated films released by indie studios and foreign countries that I really liked this year. I did have plenty to talk about. Here they are in my latest foreign/indie animated film guide.

Have a pencil test of Dr. Facilie's demise in The Princess and the Frog. Nothing beats classic hand drawn animation in my eyes.

Five years ago today, Soul was released. Out of all the animated films this decade, this one has meant the most to me as it's a gorgeous film from Pixar with its heartfelt and emotional themes, beautiful animation, great characters, and brilliant direction from Pete Docter.

I'm very disappointed to hear of Paramount's decision to pull The Legend of Aang from theaters and make it a Paramount+ exclusive. I can imagine how dismaying it must've been for the crew of the film and I am disgusted at the execs at Paramount for doing this. Shame on them.

Pixar has announced that Gatto will be released a bit earlier. The film is now scheduled for release on March 5, 2027 rather than June 18th. Considering that Beyond the Spider-Verse is coming out around then, a smart move. Still very hyped to see this new film!

My main goal for 2026 is to try to do more. I really want to make more videos, watch more movies, just really allow myself to do even more amazing things while still making the people I love happy. I have hope things will work out and I really am curious to see where it goes.

We've got another SpongeBob film that was released this time in theaters, and in this film SpongeBob goes up against the Flying Dutchman. Needless to say, it's another SpongeBob film. Anyway, here's my review of The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants.

Whenever times are rough, I always think back to the ending of A Boy Named Charlie Brown and what Linus says to Charlie Brown after he loses the spelling bee. It's a good message for people that we all need at times like this.

For those worried about Sony buying Peanuts, I just want to say that they only bought the stake from WildBrain. They don't own it entirely and the Schulz family still owns a stake in it. I don't think the franchise is gonna get spoiled so I'm curious to see what happens.

It's crazy now that we're two weeks away from 2026. This year flew by way too quickly and it was a bit rough at times. My main goal for next year is to improve as I always do and still try to make people happy because in this day and age, we've got to have a little hope and joy.

Pixar has released a new still from Hoppers in Empire. I still think this is my most anticipated animated film of next year because of just how insane and different it looks compared to other Pixar films as well as how fun it seems. I cannot wait to see it!

This is a firm demonstration for how harmful streaming can be for films and shows. They can disappear without a moments notice and they have nowhere else to be legally seen. This is why streaming needs to put more stuff out on physical media cause art shouldn't be lost to time.
‘She-Ra and the Princesses of Power’ is scheduled to leave Netflix on February 21, 2026.

Cartoon Saloon has unveiled a new film at the Cartoon Movie 2026 festival. The film is titled Kindred Spirits from Tomm Moore, the director of Wolfwalkers and Song of the Sea and will follow an Irish refugee child and a Choctaw son looking for a new home and a family. I love it.

Twenty five years ago today, The Emperor's New Groove was released. One of the funniest animated films ever made, this comedy from Walt Disney Animation Studios is a total riot thanks to its hilarious story, great animation, and a slew of classic characters.

I'm absolutely and truly devastated about what happened to Rob Reiner. His string of films throughout the 80s and into the early 90s was unlike any other filmmaker and he was truly a hilarious personality. I am appalled to hear of his murder and I'm just utterly devastated.

Have some incredible pencil tests from How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The Chuck Jones classic will always and forever be my definitive version of the Dr. Seuss tale. That animation and Boris Karloff's voice really just bring it all together.

I usually don't talk about film trailers I don't like, but I'm honestly stunned at how bad this new Animal Farm film looks. It seems like this film really is going to completely miss the point about Orwell's original novel. Like wow. This looks absurd.
First trailer for Andy Serkis’ ‘ANIMAL FARM’ has dropped.

In theaters May 1.

If there's one thing that you'll never get me to do, it's lose hope. Things in animation and film are rough now and I'm worried, but I'm not gonna concede to the worst possibilities and think it's completely lost. I know things can and will get better. I want to stay strong.

I hate generative AI and how harmful it is to artists and I just want it to go away already.

I'm really devastated to hear about Jeff Garcia's death at the age of 50. He really ended up bringing a lot of personality and laughs into Sheen in Jimmy Neutron and hearing about his death at that young an age is genuinely shocking to me. Really, really sad.

DreamWorks has announced that for its 20th anniversary, they will be re-releasing Madagascar in theaters on January 16th. I still remember seeing this in theaters when it first came out all those years ago so it's nice to see it back in the theater again.
