If only there were an easy way to remember the Edmund Fitzgerald and remember to fund the NOAA
In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

The appeasement moment
Angus King: "This initial strategy didn't work. And now we have one. We're gonna have a guaranteed vote on the ACA, and it may not succeed. I grant that. But a reasonable chance -- 10, 20, 30% -- is a lot better than 0% which is where we were."

Maine do your thing finally
King: So I believe that we are closer tonight to a vote on the ACA tax credits than we were this morning. This agreement tonight is a win for the American people.

Birds Not Mosquitoes
Invasive mosquitoes with avian malaria threaten Hawaiʻi's native honeycreepers. Conservationists are using drones and helicopters to release lab-reared male mosquitoes carrying a Wolbachia bacterium strain that causes non-viable eggs when they mate with wild females to control mosquito populations.
Thousands of mosquitoes are being dropped by drone over islands in Hawaii. Here’s why | CNN
Native Hawaiian honeycreeper birds are being wiped out by avian malaria. Scientists think they can battle the problem by releasing more mosquitoes.

They could simply choose to pay SNAP, nothing preventing that
Trying to figure out what #SCOTUS just did with #SNAP, and why Justice Jackson temporarily froze the district court's ruling?

Via "One First," me on what's going on—and why I think Jackson's move was savvy, notwithstanding the awful circumstances that forced it:

Holy shit.

Game 7 between the Jays and the Mariners just ran an pro-free trade ad, targeted to American workers, decrying tariffs.

The twist being that, if you don't catch it beforehand, Ronald Reagan is revealed as the speaker in the closing seconds.

What PAC is this? The Province of Ontario.
Ronald Reagan narrates a new anti-tariff ad from Canada
The new commercial is part of a $75 million ad campaign by Ontario aimed at Republican voters.

Very proud of Hawaii these days
The Hawaii Supreme Court’s ruling means that law enforcement in the state will now be required to record all interrogations inside police stations. They will also be required to record all interrogations outside stations “when feasible.”
Hawaii Supreme Court Expands Rights of Defendants, and Once Again Rebukes SCOTUS
The justices ruled that Hawaii’s constitution requires police to record interrogations. And they vowed to protect due process for Hawaii residents—unlike, they said, the Roberts Court.
