Tropes are not bad. There's a difference between a cliché and a trope. The Lord of the Rings has tropes in it that Tolkien did not invent, Éowyn's backstory coming to mind.

Let people write what they find fun. You are not the authority on joy.

Did anyone else have these books growing up? I don’t know why but I never read the Goosebumps books in school, but I did have these and they freaked me out 💀 I can’t recall any of the stories now though 🎃

Green: Once we get home, I'll read a book, weave two baskets, re-arrange the pantry, learn esperanto- Blue interrupts Green, who turns to listen. Blue: That's quite a list. Are you sure you're being completely realistic? Green takes a momentary pause from being cartoonish, being now depicted as a painstakingly detailed and shaded painting of a fox, with fur texture, whiskers and all. Extremely realistic Green: Of course. Returning back to normal, Green keeps walking. Blue follows, looking at Green with suspicion. Blue: How long did it take you to draw that gag? Green: A lot longer than I am willing to admit.

Especially if you're a weird/cosmic horror author, but actually if you're any kind of author, ignore any accusations or criticisms that your work is guilty of purple prose. For one thing, stylistic maximalism is awesome. For another, "too much" is a matter of taste and sensibility—and whatever counts as mainstream stylistic sensibility among readers these days can be problematic. This sensibility is a descendant of the latter twentieth century's unfortunate war on literary style in favor of the anemic, streamlined "styleless" prose of much mass market pop fiction. Additionally, the ongoing, epochal shift away from a literary, book-centric culture to a visual culture dominated by screens has blunted not only many people's readerly expectations but their actual readerly ability. In other words, if your prose seems purple, it's not your problem, it's theirs. The upshot is that you should write how you want. Say it exactly how you want to say it. If you're accused of reaching for every adjective or adverb in the dictionary and beating your ideas to death in ten words when five would be enough, take that as a badge of honor. Maybe your version of eschewing surplusage and identifying just the right word that makes the difference between lightning and a lightning bug is simply out of phase with the current culture—and that's fine.

Watched the first episode of the 79' series and i'm pretty impressed at how well it hold up.

Sure, the design is dated, and the animation isn't the best (some shots are pretty amazing though, iconic even) but the story gets real darkin a surprisingly compelling way.

What a line from the Pope! I am so pleased he is carrying on Pope Francis’ advocacy for immigrants.
More pointedly, the pope said, "Someone who says, I'm against abortion, but is in favor of the death penalty is not really pro-life. Someone who says, I'm against abortion but I'm in agreement with the inhuman treatment of immigrants in the United States, I don't know if that's pro-life."

"Choices" aren't real choices when we've been so heavily conditioned by trauma that we are blind to our options and resources.

Questions like "Why didn't you leave?" & "Why did you keep repeating those patterns?" assume agency that we literally don't comprehend when we're down the rabbit hole.
