Have you read "The Message" by Ta-Nehisi Coates yet? While listening to the audiobook, I caught myself pausing and rewinding to fully absorb the words—I didn't want it to end! The narration is incredibly powerful, moving, and vivid. I highly recommend reading it and sharing it with others!

I think it’s not helpful to repeat claims that the administration is working on eliminating “DEIA” as though it’s some kind of corporate strategy; just say explicitly that they’re trying to eliminate diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, and explain how.

Yes this is so important. And also please hold how many disabled people are disabled Black and Brown folks, disabled trans and queer folks. It’s those at the intersections of multiple oppressions: racism, ableism, anti-Blackness, cisheteropatriarchy that are in the most danger.
This is probably not a surprise to people in the disability community, and I apologize for my ignorance about it, but I have been genuinely surprised how much immediate government wrath is going towards people in the disability community

A 67 year old amputee and wheelchair user lived with his son who had cerebral palsy.

They were killed in the Eaton fire while waiting for an ambulance that never arrived.

Many disabled people can not evacuate on their own. They need to be included in evacuation plans (yet almost never are)

We just had an IEP meeting, and I’m so frustrated! Even with the best teachers and intentions, the system is still fundamentally ableist. The IEP needs a section for system-level interventions to address ableism and promote inclusivity. Bullying shouldn’t just be addressed by focusing on autistic—

Autism researchers made up their own field-specific criteria for labeling interventions “evidence-base practice” for the sole purpose of giving interventions with low-quality evidence this designation.
What is common knowledge in your field but shocks outsiders?

Ants often act like inefficient goofballs. They got lost, accidentally drop their good and walk in circles trying to find it but eventually give up and go home, half of the ants in a nest just sit there 24/7 and do absolutely nothing.

THE MOST IMPORTANT PART of my article on supporting autistic kids (and adults, as my son is now) during the holidays: "Remind others that even if your child doesn’t speak in typical fashion, or indeed at all, it’s still rude to talk about them like they’re not sitting right there, taking it in."
Holidays unsettle autistic children for legitimate reasons. If your child thrives on routine, consider how challenging this time of the year can be. But we can support our kids through seasonal chaos, if we help them cope with whatever disruptions or delights the holidays may bring.
