Yes!! We talked with @kbottemabeutel.bsky.social about ABA research COIs at TPGA. Specifically she told us, “we shouldn’t have a separate set of lower standards that we only apply to autism research.”

It’s as though researchers and professionals have convinced themselves that this is strong evidence—and I think they’ve gaslighted themselves into believing it, too!

When I learned just how weak the evidence supporting ABA truly is, I felt completely gaslighted. Now, many years later, I work in the same place, and sadly, not much has changed regarding intervention recommendations.

I’m so glad I trusted my instincts and stopped the services, even though it was terrifying.
That same year, I was fortunate to take your class and get to know you. To this day, you are the only person who told me that I was right to trust my judgment, and that meant the world to me.

It astonishes me how many practitioners still firmly advocate for 20-40 hours of ABA without hesitation or critical reflection. I remember telling my son's doctor that ABA didn’t feel right to me, and she insisted that "good ABA" might seem tough at first and encouraged me to stick with it.

However, I think the IEP’s language and format itself is ableist and deficit-based. I think there should be a section for school-level interventions in IEP, mentioning goals for school. How this school is trying to be more inclusive and how these goals are going to be measured?
