Earlier this year, Dr. Jane Goodall sat down for an interview for Brad Falchuk’s new Netflix series, Famous Last Words.

The premise of the series is to interview people on the condition that the interview not air until the subject has passed away.

obviously this is *by far* not the only reason for (often valid!) criticism, but also, if your critique is "this framing will lead the audience (excluding me, because I'm very smart) to think X," it does seem incumbent to figure out whether or not that is actually happening

The reason the Biden story won't go away is that the "Biden Inner Circle Coverup" story is the "Feinstein on Judiciary" story is the "Connolly instead of AOC on Oversight" story is the "Republicans are about to pass their Medicaid killer bill because 3 Dems have literally died in their seats" story.

When this video was first texted to me, I assumed it was from Iran.

The way she screams, she was wearing a hijab, and the way the law enforcement approached her—it looked no different from the way Islamic Republic authorities arrest women.

It’s from Massachusetts, of course.

There are not. But the administration’s general strategy appears to be to confuse the public by asserting that even the clearest black-letter law is hotly contested so long as they can scrounge up some hack willing to pretend up is down.

The 1952 McCarran Act under which these actions are being carried out today was heavily criticized by Jewish groups (including the ADL) as being deeply inflected by antisemitic attitudes. This 1952 piece in the Wisconsin Jewish Chronicle compared the McCarran Act to the Nuremberg Laws.

There's a lot of confusion swirling so it may help to explain that the below is actually fairly normal following an ICE arrest. ICE often transfers people to the deep South where some of the largest detention centers are located, and the ICE Detainee Locator system can take up to 24 hours to update.
Until last night, the ICE detainee locator stated Khalil was at Elizabeth, NJ—even though his wife had been unable to find him there yesterday. This morning, his location has been updated to Jena — a very remote, GEO group-run facility in the middle of rural Louisiana.

Only because I have seen statements to this effect like a hundred times now:

He was not disappeared. He's being transferred to a prison in Louisiana. It happens all the time and ICE sucks at notifications. It's very bad! There's a lot of shady shit going on here! But it's not a "disappearance"

Based on experiences in other countries (🇭🇺🇮🇳🇹🇷), I am not so optimistic. Many far-right supporters expect all politicians to be corrupt, including their own, and accept corruption of their politicians as long as they deliver on other issues/punish “the Other”.
Some of us have been saying this since 2020 and even before: Dems should make corruption *the* central issue in US politics and public life and go on the offensive against GOP/MAGA/Trump transparent and hypocritical corruption and grifting. Most voters hate corruption.

I have a totally different view of median voter sentiment, which is they are wholly tolerant of corruption so long as they feel like they’re getting something out it.

In advance of the Oscars tonight: a lot of comedy heroes let you down. They become unfunny/bitter/closed minded. Conan is the exception. He has grown & evolved & is funnier than he’s ever been. He’s also an extremely kind and lovely human. Just a sincere post to say: Conan rules.

Concur. AOC, Pritzker and Jasmine Crockett just need to start telling Democrats what to do. People want to be led. They're begging for leaders. And current Democratic leadership is derelict.

I hope you realize that you and Pritzker just are the Democrat Party leaders now. I know that's not how it works for committees or other officialese, but nobody has picked up the keys and the car is full of gas. Just take over. Obama did this in an incredibly similar precarious moment. It's yours.

A Russian puppet committed to empowering Putin and weakening the West would not have acted differently from Trump and Vance today. “Betrayal” does not capture the scope of the evil we saw. Our president is allying the nation with an enemy of democracy and human rights while double-crossing our ally.

Yes, there is a crime of "improper entry" under 8 U.S.C. § 1325(a)(1) that makes it a misdemeanor to enter the country illegally. But:

A: That offense doesn't apply to visa overstays, and;
B: The statute of limitations is 5 years, and most undocumented immigrants have been here for 15+ years.
What a lie. Here's the Supreme Court in 2012 making clear that simply being in the country without permission is NOT a crime: "As a general rule, it is not a crime for a removable alien to remain present in the United States."

It's a civil violation, not a crime.
