The U.S. needs a new approach to the overdose crisis—one rooted in health. For decades, the war on drugs has failed to curb overdose deaths and fueled violence in countries like Colombia and Mexico. It’s time to abandon this broken model and invest in solutions that give people the care they need.

The value of reading history is you know that in 1860 there were abolitionists who were so demoralized that they thought chattel slavery would be permanent. 5 years later those still alive had lived to see its end.

The shutdown is at 39 days but SNAP has only been cut for 8 and we're already seeing massive demand for food pantries, desperate pleas for direct help and assistance on related things like helping people keep pets. This is precarity at its highest. While the rich get richer.

In a sane country with competent leadership, the 50 highest-ranking Democrats would call a press conference to denounce what just happened as a threat to the republic and demand Trump's immediate impeachment and removal from office.

I don't know he could make his intentions more clear.

I also have no nostalgia for the road to fascism, which is a trap I think a lot of liberal and progressive folks are falling into—romanticizing the conditions that preceded this moment of acceleration. The path that led to this mess is not the way out.

we should stop letting the police departments in supposedly progressive cities use poor communities as policy labs for dangerous technology designed to incarcerate as many of those people as possible

I'm mad about a lot of things (ha! ha!) but the sheer number of journalists who wrote "There are no plans to implement Project 2025" under the grounds of "well, Trump says there aren't, so..." and still have jobs is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy up there
President Trump says he is meeting today with Russ Vought, OMB director and "of PROJECT 2025 Fame," to discuss cuts to "Democrat Agencies."

I feel naive just writing this, but a president threatening to withhold funding to a city unless it elects his preferred candidate for mayor seems like the sort of thing that shouldn't be legal.
Trump on Mamdani: "He is going to have problems with Washington like no Mayor in the history of our once great City. Remember, he needs the money from me, as President, in order to fulfill all of his FAKE Communist promises. He won’t be getting any of it, so what’s the point of voting for him?"

Federal courts across the country have labeled this view of mandatory detention a perversion of immigration law that denies due process and misunderstands Congress’ clear intent. It would even make a key component of the Laken Riley Act superfluous.

Israel destroyed a Palestinian seed bank today. This is such a specific kind of evil, targeting literal hope for the future. Attempting to further alienate Palestinians from their home and land. So much destroyed just for the sake of destroying. It's awful.
