Vulture article: The Acolyte was one of the boldest, weirdest, and most anti-Establishment properties the Star Wars franchise ever allowed in its ranks, so of course Disney+ canceled it. A Skywalker-less series set years before the events of George Lucas’s films, The Acolyte centers on a pair of twins, Osha and Mae (both played by Amandla Stenberg), whose mysterious past and powers make them the target of suspicious Jedi. Years after an altercation between the girls and a group of Jedi masters, the Jedi start dying one by one, launching another investigation into what Osha and Mae (and the enigmatic mentor figure the Stranger, played by Manny Jacinto) are up to. While we’ve been denied creator Leslye Headland’s full vision for the series, those eight episodes still offered a bounty of fascinating ideas about how we expect Jedi heroes to look and act.
