This is kinda how we got Linux BTW.
The Helsinki University just kinda let Linus tinker with rewriting Minix on the clock. I don't actually remember if they (the uni) didn't like Minix or if it was just... what they did.
Neurodivergent folks should all be paid a stipend to do things we like to do, and the world would end up benefiting from it.
The thing about being neurodivergent is that I Like It. What I don’t like is that the world imposes numerous taxes on me for being like this.

I don’t view it as a Me problem.

Sigh meanwhile on Facebook gammons are telling me I'm making it up when I say I can't drive due to disability but can cycle if there's a cycle lane. They really want disabled people to only need cars all the time as moral cover for the fact that they don't want to share street space.

One of the many striking things about American political discourse is I have never heard any of them say the words "proportional representation", even when discussing constitution level voting reform!

A funny thing about this is the right has had these big campaigns where they burned trainers and stuff, but I've never seen the left do that.

The reason that people "appear out of nowhere" is that as you go faster, your eyes flick around a narrower part of your field of vision, but your brain fills in a complete image. So you can go from "that looks empty" to "where did they come from?" in an instant.
Surely "she appeared from nowhere," is a guilty plea? It's certainly no defence.
Especially for a police motorcyclist going through a red light at double the speed limit.

Hard to imagine now, but before the remasters and prequels Star Wars was both unpopularly nerdy and had a degree of underground cache that led to it being referenced in alt rap quite often.

The problem from their point of view is that rapid decarbonization requires public, collective decisions about the organization of production, in a way that threaten capital-owners' authority over both the production process and the political system.

Note: it's not that you can't make money on solar. Solar is cheaper energy than oil. It's that the rate of profit on it is lower because you can't monopolise the sun.
Yes, this is correct. And the reason is because our capitalist classes have decided that it is not sufficiently profitable, so they're not going to do it.

We must understand this reality. Capital *cannot* be relied upon to address the climate crisis.

I've been doing a lot of work on transport the last few years - I was convenor of GoBike the cycle infrastructure campaign for 2 - and it's really eye-opening. I see people say very odd things about everything from congestion to road safety.

Trump threatening to sue the BBC now. And we have an utterly spineless government and ruling class who won't stand up at all. Britain is pathetic.

well, at least I can agree the BBC has “one-sided” transgender coverage... oh, that's no what he meant.

Honestly terrifying that the BBC can run an unhinged story about lesbians being forced to have sex with trans women, with one of the main sources being a rapist who responded to the story's publication by calling for trans people to all be hung, and the Official Consensus is they are too pro-trans

Truly amazing that any time the democrats have to bite the bullet and do something that ruins countless lives, there's always *just* enough votes to get it done, but if there is a vote on something that would actually improve people's lives, they are always one vote short. Crazy how that happens.

Surprised there's not more talk of how Mamdani's voter coalition completely demolishes the arguments of the anti-woke left. He did the economic message, it's vital, but he didn't flinch from addressing identity. Some people said it was impossible to build solidarity like that.
