The Fall
Acklam Hall, London
2nd night at this understated venue. 1st night was recorded for the 'Chaos' tape. Mark E Smith reckoned the 2nd night was better.

So @theguardian.com publishes this in a cost of living crisis and to rub it in it lists the clothes the writers are wearing in the photos at the bottom of the article. One of them is wearing a £1600 dress! No wonder they’ve not allowed comments.

It’s been a while since I’ve visited JG Ballard’s fetishistic technophile science fiction, the pre-‘Empire of the Sun’ strangeness. It’s great to be back there.

Found the tweet that Joyce Carol Oates bodied Elon Musk with and it's so beautiful in its eloquent, simple take down. So much so he's crashing out trying to prove he reads books now. Put this in the Louvre.

Somehow this is a great film. I’m not sure how and I don’t think I’ve finished processing it but it’s an unusual piece of work that mesmerised me.

Parents, please check your kids’ candy this Halloween. I just found this puzzle box inside a Terry’s chocolate orange, played with it for a moment, and a gang of black-clad, heavily pierced extra-dimensional beings showed up saying they have such sights to show me. Be safe.

I thought this bloke died in prison a few years ago. And yet here he is in Morrisons. Seems he also has a ballroom named after him in the White House.

Why does everyone keep calling it “The Epstein Ballroom?” Please stop repeating “The Epstein Ballroom” because it is not called “The Epstein Ballroom!” Don’t tell the news that it’s called “The Epstein Ballroom” and please don’t repost this!!!!!

King writes about one of the most interesting periods in British musical history from the viewpoint of a major participant. I wish he hadn’t been so harsh on Andy Gill and Dave Allen but he’s pretty rude about himself as well. If you’re interested in Go4 and post-punk get amongst it.

@thebhf.bsky.social Hello, while the staff in your shop near me are fabulous, I sent a complaint about one of your delivery drivers to you a week ago and I’ve heard nothing back. What’s going on?

This is great. A very original and intelligent supernatural tale. I need to see Straczynski’s ‘Babylon 5’ and find his other comic work.

This is a very interesting book. Richard Lloyd is an extremely deep thinking and philosophical individual with a fascinating and bohemian story to tell. Drugs abound but so do some great insights.

One of my favourite Miles Davis albums. Bit of a buried classic.

This second Patti Smith album is overlooked and underrated. It’s incredibly inventive and exhilarating. One of her finest works.

@maxrushden.bsky.social You always describe Kevin Day as a comedian but I never hear any evidence of that.

What happens if you play Gary Glitter at 33 1/3? Nope, not jail time but ‘Closer’ era Joy Division.

I see that Nick Bright, former presenter of one of sports radio’s most dismal shows ‘The Squad’, has been relegated from 5Live to Talksport. He’ll fit right in there as they only talk inanely about the top five and England.

This is so powerful and exhilarating. The earlyish Def Jam stuff was so fresh. This is among the best of it.
