You can want John Bolton, America's most influential enthusiast for the USA going to war against mid-sized nations, to be investigated for something and also fear that the USG is unjustly using this as a pretext for harassment of him.

A Horse-lover's Guide to The Blue Sword - Reactor
Robin McKinley’s The Blue Sword was published in 1982. It’s a story about Imperialism; Fantasy Britain, known as Home, has conquered most of an area that I sort of think is Fantasy Iraq, and is starin...

I think this is a pretty good independent signal that the terms of the deal weren’t so much “imposed” by the USG as actively *welcomed* by reactionary elements in Columbia’s administration (particularly on the Board of Trustees).

The way Trump-Epstein is breaking now despite so much of it being public for years has me feeling like when a college player with a weird name or funny backstory gets drafted and NFL fans are freaking out about it and I’m like “didn’t everybody hear about this 5 years ago, he was a 4-star recruit”

US political discourse has been under the reign of Glonzo from before the joke was created. It exists in other countries. Hopefully it does not spread further and contracts as people get better. Until then: youtu.be/e9o2i6GGPjc?...

I haven't watched the video yet, but John Bolton has survived whatever murderous high he got from the US bombing Iranian nuclear research facilities and is apparently talking about other topics.

A bummer truth about industry in Taiwan. Frankly the same as in any sufficiently wealthy country. I believe actual China gets around this with internal residency controls. I think this forces enough people to stay where they grow up and work at the factory/farm there.
Taiwan has recruited a record number of people from nearby nations to meet the surge in demand for chips for AI. These workers are usually represented by brokers, who have so much control over their lives that many migrants feel trapped and exploited

Taiwan’s chip plants run on migrant workers. Job brokers run their lives
In Taiwan’s AI-fueled chip boom, brokers control everything from paychecks to dorm beds, leaving workers feeling trapped and exploited.

Right now robots can make food if you're expectations are really low, but if you're hoping for cheap but homey, no. Also we continue to disincentivise tough old ladies who can cook volumes of good food and the robots can't do that yet.
Robot chefs are replacing humans at some South Korean restaurants. Tech companies say robots can help solve labor shortages in the aging country, but workers say they've been demoted from chefs to cleaning staff, and diners are complaining about the food.

Robot chefs take over at South Korea’s highway restaurants, to mixed reviews
Automation is posed as a labor shortage solution, but workers say robots are making their jobs — and food — worse.
