LA fires are a good reminder that the only difference between me and any refugee is luck.
I wish I knew why so few Americans can wrap their heads around this concept. I don't know if it's willful ignorance or some sort of naïve, imagined invincibility simply by dint of having being born in the United States, but we are all one natural disaster or coup away from being refugees...

This needs to be fixed ASAP! I speak as a MD DV victim who was threatened with harsher penalties for providing an audio & video recording of an ex threatening to kill me than he faced in his criminal charges! It was both patently absurd & terrifying.

As someone who is autistic, I was born 40 years ago...the numbers haven't 'skyrocketed' so much as doctors & researcher refined the diagnostic criteria. Oh, and realised that women can, in fact, be autistic too. #SMDH
