Now comes a winter of ghosts and those beasts that live at the edges of fever when it has turned to shiver. In this season's shortened light, rain grows sharp teeth and wind becomes a spearpoint against bones. Even dawn seems reluctant to hoist hope high. – #DAKilroy, 1982 #Dawn

Pearl Jam (twice)
Bob Dylan
U2
Neil Young
The Tragically Hip (many times)

And I’ll always regret the time I was in Verona, Italy and could have seen Radiohead at the Roman arena beside our hotel. Instead I left a day early.

I just happened to notice how one of my favourite books is rated on Goodreads, and it confirmed to me that Goodreads ratings are nearly always wrong.

With Mark Carney coming out as a true banker, the moment is ripe for left-wing populist Avi Lewis -- who knows the wealth doesn't trickle down. #cdnpoli #canlab #NDP www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...
Linda McQuaig: With Carney’s budget prioritizing the business elite, could this be Canada’s Mamdani moment?
NDP leadership candidate Avi Lewis, like New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, openly advocates taxing the rich in order to provide benefits for ordinary people. Now there’s a wild idea.

Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro says 'I'd rather die' than use generative AI
Del Toro's new Frankenstein adaption reimagines Mary Shelley's 1818 Gothic novel. Frankenstein was like a tech bro: "creating something without considering the consequences," he explains.

I wanted to explore Britton-Purdy and Pozen's explanations of the 'three competing narratives' of our political moment, so ... here it is. One narrative is transparently illegitimate; the other two are divided mostly by appetite for reform.

America is in a moment of authoritarian crisis that could produce a fascist state, a Third Reconstruction, or anything in between.

What a performance by Max Scherzer. I was questioning their decision to start him over Bassitt, but I guess that’s why John Schneider is the Jays’ manager and not me 😂

Growing up I heard a lot about Ken Dryden but never had a chance to see him play, as he retired when I was only 2. Then when I was in my 20s I read his classic book, The Game. It was not only insightful, it was damn near poetry.

The IDF says it has killed the Al Jazeera journalist Anas al-Sharif. He and the four other members his team were killed. In an announcement, the IDF claims al-Sharif was the head of a Hamas terrorist cell. Will we see any evidence? 186 journalists have now been killed in Gaza in the past 22 months.
