I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

I met a friend for breakfast this morning who commented on something I’d sent him earlier this week: “Speako is deado..”

(Context being the Australian political “killing season”.)

He said I should write headlines for The Daily Terror 😳

I’m still not sure if I’ve been flattered or insulted 🤔🤭

Good regulation is good for productivity growth. Lack of regulation is driving inefficiency.

Poorly regulated building markets led to debacles like the cracking in Opal Towers and flammable cladding being expensively replaced across the country

Who would think that at this point in Australia’s economic transition we should be spending more, not less, on research and development…

Imagine if we taxed the gas industry and pant more on R&D…crazy talk … #cliamte

CSIRO 350 job cuts a damning indictment on Government priorities, misses 'golden opportunity' on research
The announcement this week that CSIRO are to cut 350 research jobs is another damning indictment on Australia’s ongoing failure to prioritise research and development.

The Govt has declared domestic violence a national emergency - now we need an emergency response.

One woman is killed every four days by a current or former partner. That is unacceptable

& Many studies internationally find that women are much more likely to be seriously injured or killed by their male partner when they're pregnant, or have just given birth. 😡😡😡

WHY WHY are not all men utterly ashamed of their brothers who do this harm to women & babies? I don’t understand.

I’m on the 3rd book of a series of, I’m told, “lesbian fantasy novels” (for the record: the Alpennia novels by Heather Rose Jones) and can say - as a straight white bloke - that the lesbian themes neither enthuse me nor irritate me.

They’re just good, well-written, books.

One thing moving from old to new primary data centres (my set of current projects) shows up is just how many dumb-as-dirt compromises have been made over the past decades to avoid spending $$$ 'then' 🙄...

...leading to many revealing themselves as *extremely* costly 'now' 🫣😱

Stored trouble. 😳🤬

The mayor of Tamworth Council is a very old mate of Barnaby Joyce's and a National party member

No surprises this backward collection of red-necks drags their council to court on their ratepayers' money to oppose a wind farm - and even then can't get their legal arguments right
Tamworth Council went to court to try and stop a wind farm. It didn’t go well. Tamworth Council argued that the wind turbines would be too big for local roads. The judge pointed out there is no approval needed to drive on a public road reneweconomy.com.au/youve-got-to...

A milestone (kilometre-stone 🤔) of sorts: 9,000km on the odometer of my e-bike (in five years). Not bad when mostly I’m taking short local trips of <5km.

I caught up tonight with my great friend Emma Heyde (who I’ve supported as a candidate through many political campaigns at federal, state and local levels).

We barely mentioned politics. Emma has stepped back from that and seems and looks much healthier for it.

Family, friends, other interests 😃

Looking at #crimenight #abccrimenight on Australia's ABC tonight (eyewitness testimony) I was reminded of this..

Neither I nor Dad could place where and when on our 🚴‍♂️ it happened 'til reviewing the video.. On the same day!

Clear memory - of motorbike, not place & time..

Dad and I rode our 🚲s to lunch today.

We did NOT need people illegally riding motorcycles at us on the bike paths, nor being unsafely overtaken by a high-speed (and illegal, not that it's enforced) fat bike.

Cyclists overtaking with fair warning by way of contrast..

I think it is an unfair dichotomy for #4corners to say of Marles and Albo, over the #nuclearban, which they supported in opposition, that they must have been either naive or dishonest.

They were neither. They were and are, instead, utterly #unprincipled.

They are both very proud of that, too...
