Did you hear about the executive who was embracing his peer until suddenly they were in the spotlight? Lots of awkward scrambling ensued and then the executive told his attorney general to release grand jury transcripts about the relationship.

I'm wondering what needs to happen for the political press to stop reflexively characterizing the GOP as the party of fiscal and economic responsibility. Because for most of my lifetime they have been the governmental equivalent of a cokehead who pays for everything with near-maxed credit cards.
Moody’s Ratings downgraded the United States’ credit rating, as the country’s debt soars and interest rates remain high.

The downgrade, from the highest rating to one notch below, comes as the president’s budget bill suffered a blow in Congress.

In February 2020, active news readers were aware of the coming pandemic but not the mass public.

I’m getting the same sense of dread about how the trade wars are gonna hit the U.S. economy over the next few months unless Trump figures out an artful way to capitulate.

I want to emphasize something. If you get the column you saw in detail, but it's worth repeating.

Our economic and geopolitical relationships with Canada and Europe cannot be repaired. Destroying them forces our former partners into alternative plans that cannot be undone.

Being a historian, people ask me if I think the US is living through Germany 1933.

I answer no, analogies are always imperfect but to me it feels more like Russia 1999: a blatant theft of state assets and liberals in a fugue state, refusing to believe the arc of progress is bending against them.

Radley’s series about George Floyd’s death and the people trying to misrepresent it, is absolutely essential.

I will only comment that I’m not sure why some people are so obsessed with arguing that police didn’t kill Floyd when it’s so clear they’d be perfectly fine with it if they did.

All can be true:
1. Concerns about Biden age are legitimate - he'd be president at 86! Ds would go crazy in reverse situation.
2. But coverage is wildly disproportionate; both men are elderly & showing their age.
3. Most importantly, only one makes outlandish false statements & threatens democracy.
