American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

I will not support a deal that does nothing to make health care more affordable.

We are in a health care emergency. A simple one-year extension of these tax credits would cost less than Donald Trump’s $40 billion bailout for Argentina.

A vote for this bill is a mistake.

Here are some things that Charlie Kirk said in his life.

The man is dead, and so it only seems fair to share his legacy by cataloguing the values he spread while alive.

What I would add is that Kirk said that someone should bail Paul Pelosi's attacker out of prison.

The difference between us and them is that I think that even the people on the other side who call for political violence against me, shouldn't have it done to them.

I encourage everyone to look out for their safety and practice good internet hygiene, of course. But some of the scolding posts I've read suggest we can change the awful aftermath of a fateful event by just holding our tongues and being quiet little mice, and that isn't my experience.

"Political violence, unfortunately, has ramped up in this country ... I think there are people who are fomenting it in this country. I think the president's rhetoric often foments it."

That’s the thing. I wholeheartedly agree with the idea that political violence is bad and that this shooting will make it worse.

But it also feels to me that this is yet another area where Republicans get away with shit that no one else ever could.

I don’t feel bad for the guy, but this is bad. /1
I suspect the response here will be asymmetric. Regardless of the shooter's identity, Democrats will make strident appeals for peace and calm, while Republicans will call for retribution and an escalation of violence. This is a very bad combination.

Yes, the budget funds a vast expansion of concentration camps at home and will spur a larger system abroad. After looking at countries that have gone this way (including the US, which has been on this path for some time), I can say many of us are still in a position to fight it. But we need to act.
I wrote about the budget bill, police-state measures intensifying, Himmler's defense of camps, the dangers of mirroring Putin's Rosgvardia, Trump's wish for a multistate network of concentration camps, and a long list of things you can do right now to fight ICE.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.
