Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.
Kemi Badenoch claiming Terry Pratchett as her favourite author is wild

In Discworld, cities thrive because they welcome dwarfs, trolls, vampires, and humans alike. Ankh-Morpork works because everyone belongs. Funny how fiction can seem more humane than policy sometimes.

On 27th August 2015, The Shepherd's Crown, the last book Sir Terry Pratchett completed before he died, was published.

To mark the ten year anniversary, we have a message from Rob Wilkins:

@dynael.bsky.social and I would like to introduce you to Samuel Raphael Pratchett. Born on July 19th 2025 to the sound of Welcome to the Jungle by Vitamin String Quartet. Not bad for a human.

I really enjoyed this piece by @20thcenturymarc.marcburrows.co.uk on Terry Pratchett's legacy of "militant decency" and how his books charge us to stand up against injustice, bigotry and treating people like things. And all with humour and anger combined.

The latest edition of What’s Next? Is out. This week I talk about whether it’s time to excise Alexa and other corporate-controlled voice assistants from your life (it is). I also give a few thoughts about things I’m going to replace my current gear with.
Should You Break Up With Alexa?
Short answer: Yes. Long answer: It depends on how you feel about the current state of the surveillance capitalism state

Always late for this kind of occasion, and often off by one, I just finished listening to Terry Pratchett: A Life With Footnotes by Rob Wilkins. A wonderful, joyful and eye opening trip, which made me laugh nearly as often as a Discworld novel and made me cry more than most. GNU Sir Terry Pratchett.
