I think the notion that art today is worse because artists are afraid of reactions to their art is very obviously a silly one. IF art is worse it is primarily because of material conditions and, IMO, anti-intellectualism (mostly the fact that people do not and increasingly cannot read anymore).

as a medical illustrator, i draw a lot of hearts and there's this one heart that i see Everywhere. it is so heavily referenced and reused and there are hundreds of derivatives of this thing. and... it's honestly not very accurate? it's deflated and twisted to show all the great vessels. (thread)
